This article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian season 3 finale
The Sandman writer Neil Gaiman once wrote about the importance of knowing where to end a tale, as “the real problem with stories—if you keep them going long enough, they always end in death.” Well, after today’s season three finale, maybe Lucasfilm should just tie a bow on The Mandalorian and leave Din and Grogu in peace.
After a pitched battle between the Mandalorians and Moff Gideon’s forces for control of Mandalore, we got the happiest ending to a season we’ve seen yet. In heartwarming scenes, Din officially adopted the pint-size Force user as “Din Grogu”, meaning he’s now officially his Dad. The pair then did something of a victory lap, stopping off with the New Republic fighters to sort out some future work before heading to Nevarro where a grateful Greef Karga gave them “a cabin just outside of town where you can lay low with your new family”.
The episode ended with Din putting his feet up and Din Grogu playing with a frog. The frog’s future is probably not looking great, but these two deserve a rest.
Fans agree:
We’d just be happy to know Din and Grogu are out there somewhere doing their thing.
Sadly, Star Wars happy endings rarely last, as there’s always another galactic tyrant out there…
Of course, we already know this isn’t the end of Din and Grogu’s saga. During Star Wars Celebration earlier this month, it was announced that Dave Filoni will be directing a ‘Mandoverse’ movie intended to be the culmination of multiple show’s story arcs. The Mandalorian remains Disney Plus’ flagship Star Wars show, so the pair will play a major part in that.
But, for now, let’s let them kick their feet up and devour some frogs. They’ve earned it.
