Zac Efron and The Bear star Jeremy Allen White step into the ring in the first trailer for the upcoming biographical sports drama, The Iron Claw. Coming courtesy of A24, The Iron Claw will detail the sad tale of the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers from the 1960s who saw huge success in the sports world but struggled with personal tragedies as part of the so-called “Von Erich curse.” Check out the newly released trailer for The Iron Claw below:

Written and directed by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene), The Iron Claw stars Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich, Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich, and Stanley Simons as Mike Von Erich. The rest of the cast includes Maura Tierney (ER), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and Lily James (Baby Driver).
Zac Efron Transforms Into Kevin von Erich for The Iron Claw
Already well-known for his physique, Zac Efron has undergone even more of a physical transformation for The Iron Claw, with his co-star Jeremy Allen White having heaped praise on The Greatest Showman star for his dedication.
“Zac’s a maniac. He’s so focused and knowledgeable on training, diet, all that. In terms of a physical transformation, I think he kind of blew us all out of the water. He looks really amazing in this thing.”
The real Kevin Von Erich (whose name is Kevin Ross Adkisson) meanwhile was not involved in making the movie, but has been appearing at various events in order to set record straight prior to the release of The Iron Claw.
“Well, you know, there’s this movie coming out and I have no idea what they’re going to say. I decided to [do live shows] because I really don’t know what they’re gonna say and I wanna kind of [get a rebuttal out there]. There’s some crazy stuff on that internet and I was afraid they’d use some of that stuff for this movie and make my dad look terrible and make Kerry look terrible, I just couldn’t have that… I don’t know a thing about it.”
While Kevin Von Erich was not involved, he has revealed that some of his family members were.
“They’ve really gone all in on this and when my boys went down there, Kerry [Von Erich’s] daughter was also down there and she’s a friend with Sean Durkin too. Hollie was there, and they were meeting the actors and the guy that is going to play my dad came out there.”
Ultimately, the former professional wrestler believes that The Iron Claw will be a “good movie” and he “can’t wait to see it.”
The Iron Claw is scheduled to be released by A24 on December 22, 2023.
