Yesterday, Apple launched the iPhone 16 series, including a massive Pro Max model. The screen on Apple’s largest new smartphone has grown to 6.9″, making it comparable to tablets from a few years ago. Samsung does not want to be left behind, and it is said that the screen on its next premium mobile flagship will be the same size. However, it seems that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a lighter weight than the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
In the smartphone industry, there was a time when the trend among high-end products was to make them as light and thin as possible. This had consequences for things like the battery, whose capacity suffered due to a lack of physical space. Fortunately, that trend changed, and manufacturers lost their fear of increasing the weight of their phones to integrate larger batteries.
The weight of the Galaxy S25 Ultra would be below 220 grams
The iPhone Pro Max and Galaxy S Ultra (formerly Galaxy Note) are among the leading models of large-screen smartphones. We already know the iPhone 16 Pro Max, but Samsung’s next big release in this segment, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, is coming in early 2025. Rumor has it that the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s display will match the 6.9″ of Apple’s latest device. However, weight may be a different story. According to Ice Universe, Samsung’s next flagship will weigh just 219 grams. For reference, the iPhone 16 Pro Max weighs 227 grams, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra weighs 233 grams.
Previous reports revealed that Samsung will keep the same 5,000 mAh battery capacity as previous models. Perhaps some were expecting a bigger capacity after several years. However, it is important to remember that Samsung reserves a portion of the phone’s internal space for the S-Pen slot, so they have less room to maneuver.
The phone may also be thinner than its predecessor
In addition, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could reduce its thickness to 8.2 mm (8.6 mm on the S24 Ultra). It could also be more narrow, at 77.6 mm (79 mm for the S24 Ultra). So, considering the whole context, Samsung’s next largest mobile flagship would be a technological milestone. Lastly, it is also possible that the S25 Ultra will have thinner bezels around the screen than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The latter is similar in that aspect to the current S24 Ultra, so the South Korean giant could take the lead.
