MGM has released the first look images and behind the scenes feature for George Clooney‘s upcoming film The Boys in the Boat, based on the non-fiction novel by Daniel James Brown, which hits theaters December 25. Published in 2004 under the title The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Brown’s book focuses on the great work done by the University of Washington rowing team in the years 30, which led them to participate in the 1936 Summer Olympics – Men’s eight. The Boys in the Boat is directed by Clooney from a screenplay written by Mark L. Smith, and stars Joel Edgerton, Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), Chris Diamantopoulos (The Truth About Lies), Jack Mulhern (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines), Sam Strike (The Dougherty Gang), Luke Slattery (New Amsterdam), Thomas Elms (Spiral), Tom Varey (Game of Thrones), Bruce Herbelin-Earle (Free Rein), Wil Coban (The Liberator), James Wolk (Mad Men), Hadley Robinson (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), and Courtney Henggeler (Cobra Kai).

George Clooney’s Legacy as a Director

George Clooney began acting in the early 1980s, starring in the horror film Grizzly II: Revenge. In fact, several of his first roles were within the genre, and also in some action films. However, over time he established himself as an actor of romantic comedies, dramas and all kinds of projects, even playing Batman in the famous 1997 film directed by Joel Schumacher.

Clooney is one of the biggest Hollywood stars of his generation, and he continues to be one of those actors who attract numerous moviegoers to theaters. However, little by little he put aside the role of actor to turn to directing. His directorial debut happened in 2002 with the film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which narrates the fictional life of game show host Chuck Barris. In 2005, he released Good Night, and Good Luck, which was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture.

This film was followed by Leatherheads in 2008, The Ides of March in 2011, The Monuments Men in 2014, Suburbicon 2017 and The Midnight Sky, in which Clooney also starred. In 2021, his ninth feature film The Tender Bar was released, starring Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan, Daniel Ranieri, Lily Rabe, and Christopher Lloyd. The story is based on the semi-biographical novel by the writer J. R. Moehringer, in which he narrates how he grew up under the tutelage of his uncle, finding his second home in the bar where he worked.
