‘The Book of Boba Fett’ character’s original name was kind of incredible

Everyone loves The Book of Boba Fett‘s Black Krrsantan. The intimidating Wookiee bounty hunter made his live-action debut in the second episode and went on to cause havoc in the third in a killer fight scene. As a former bounty hunter, Fett clearly respects Krrsantan’s skills, and I’m betting we haven’t seen the last of this Wookiee.

But hardcore Star Wars fans have been loving the guy for years. He first made his debut seven years ago in Marvel Comics’ Darth Vader #1, written by Phonogram, The Wicked + The Divine, and Uncanny X-Men’s Kieron Gillen. With his character now exploding in popularity, Gillen is having a good time. Earlier this week, he commented on Twitter that:

Now he’s revealed what the character’s name was in his first drafts and it’s sheer genius:

Krrsantan has a long, long way to go before ever being as popular as ol’ Chewie, but it’s always nice to see new Wookiee characters in Star Wars.

I’m hopeful we’ll get a look at his cool backstory in upcoming episodes. As explained in the comics, he fled Kashyyyk to take down groups of slavers, eventually becoming a renowned heavyweight fighter in an underground arena. Here he received some cool upgrades, including metal knuckle prostheses that give him “permanent knuckle dusters”.

He went on to work for both Jabba the Hutt and Darth Vader, at one point tangling with Obi-Wan Kenobi after he took Owen Lars hostage over a water tax. He’s a fun character and a true Star Wars badass. We want more of him, and soon.

The Book of Boba Fett airs Wednesdays on Disney Plus.
