Today’s PlayStation State of Play was over 40 minutes long and was filled to the brim with trailers, release date announcements, and some surprises. So if you’re a PlayStation fan, you’re going to want to take a peek at what Sony has coming for its PS5 console.

PlayStation State of Play February 2025: All the biggest reveals

There were more than a few big reveals during today’s live stream but the biggest arguably revolves around the release dates for two major upcoming games. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and Borderlands 4. Both of these games belong to franchises that are behemoths in the industry with several games in their respective franchises. Both games also didn’t have a release date prior to today’s announcements for them.

So naturally, fans are excited. Outside of these two games, Sony showed off a handful of announcements for previously unannounced games as well. Some of which look pretty exciting.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater gets a release date

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a fan favorite and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the remake of this masterpiece. It’ll feature much of what players loved about the original. Of course, it’ll also feature some new stuff. Sony has announced that the game will be launching on August 28, 2025, for PS5. That means there are still a few more months to go before you can play it. However, at least now there’s a concrete date.

In addition to the release date, Sony announced the return of the Snake vs. Monkey game mode from the original version of the game. Sony doesn’t confirm if this mode has any changes, but it does state that it will share more details about this game mode in the future.

Borderlands 4 will launch in late September

Borderlands 4 was initially announced back in August of 2024. At that time, 2K Games released a teaser trailer to reveal the fourth mainline game in the Borderlands series, mentioning only that the game would be coming in 2025. As of Sony’s February PlayStation State of Play, there’s now a concrete date for the game’s release. It’s coming on September 23, 2025, and it’ll be available on PS5, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X|S.

It will also be getting a special PlayStation State of Play this Spring with more details about the game. Presumably, this State of Play will cover things like the story’s theme, game features, and more.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword now has a gameplay trailer

Capcom has been really good about reviving old franchises and remaking them, as well as announcing new titles in these franchises to capture the excitement of fans. Onimusha was one such franchise when Capcom announced Onimusha 4, officially called Onimusha: Way of the Sword, during The Game Awards back in December. Today, Sony revealed the first gameplay trailer for the game, in addition to showing off the first look at the game’s protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi.

The character will be voiced by Kenichiro Thomson, and the face model for the character is Toshiro Mifune, known for his works in several iconic Japanese films like Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai and Yojimbo. In addition to showing off gameplay of Onimusha 4 for the first time, Sony also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny. The game is releasing for PS4 and PS5 on May 23.

Stellar Blade comes to PC in June

Stellar Blade was one of PS5’s most anticipated games when it launched last year, but it was a PS5-exclusive. This left some fans unhappy that it wasn’t getting a PC release at the same time. Sony has confirmed that Stellar Blade will be launching on PC in June alongside a new DLC for the game. The DLC will revolve around developer SHIFT UP’s other massive hit, the mobile title Goddess of Victory: NIKKE.

Neither Sony nor the game’s Steam page mentions anything about PC-specific features. However, there are bound to be plenty of graphical improvements over the PS5 version.

Returnal developer Housemarque announces Saros

If you’ve played Returnal, then you know how good it is. It was also one of the first games to truly show off the graphical upgrades and features of the PS5. The game’s developer, Housemarque, just announced a new game coming in 2026 called Saros. It’s a sci-fi, third-person action game set on an off-world colony.

Housemarque says there are similarities between Returnal and Saros, but Saros introduces some key upgrades that set it apart. Mainly, each death is valuable by way of players being able to upgrade their weapons and suits. This will allow players to come back stronger and conquer challenges that were too difficult before.

Metal Eden is a fast-paced first-person sci-fi shooter

If you liked Ghostrunner and Ghostrunner 2, then you will probably like Metal Eden. Sony is calling it an adrenaline-rush sci-fi first-person shooter. These types of games are designed around giving the player a kit that allows for rapid-fire gameplay. You’ll move quickly and encounter dangers at high speed as the game is meant to be played at a super fast pace. This also sometimes comes at the cost of a quick death. Unless your reaction times can match the speed of the gameplay.

In Metal Eden, you’ll be playing an Android called Aska. Your character will have several powerful skills including one that Sony details in its post called “Core Ripping.” Once you rip a core from an enemy, you can either throw it at them for an intense explosion with devastating damage or consume the core to enhance your own abilities.

Days Gone is getting a PS5 remaster

Days Gone is a bitter-sweet game to talk about because it was so beloved by fans, and yet a sequel for it was rejected when pitched. Fortunately, you can go back to the game with a refreshed look because it’s getting a PS5 remaster. On top of this, the remaster is launching on April 25, so it won’t be long before you can play it.

The remaster will have full support for the DualSense controller and all of its features. It will also have new accessibility features, a new survival mode, and a permadeath mode for those who really want to test their skills.

There’s much more to discover

Today’s livestream had plenty to show PlayStation fans. The games above were the biggest reveals, but there is a lot more to discover if you want to consume more PlayStation content. You can view the full February 2025 PlayStation State of Play in the video below.
