Monopoly is an iconic game that’s been around for ages, and the same can be said of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros franchise, which is why makes perfect sense, then, that Hasbro would release a Super Mario Bros Movie Edition of its famed Monopoly board game.
The Super Mario Bros Movie officially landed in theaters this week. And to celebrate the release, a version of Monopoly based on the movie is now available. As one might expect you play the game like you would any other version of Monopoly. Buying and selling locations on the board, but this time from around the Mushroom Kingdom. This special edition version of the game features all kinds of neat Mario-themed details. Including game pieces based on movie characters, items, and power-ups. Like Toad’s frying pan or a super mushroom.
There are also some unique elements to this version that you won’t find in any other. Monopoly cash becomes gold coins. And there are warp pipes to teleport you around the board. Just watch out for Bowser.
The Super Mario Bros Movie edition of Monopoly features a Bowser who can steal from you
If you know the Mario franchise, then you know Bowser is the series’ central villain. He’s present in this game too, but not in the way you might think. Instead of playing as Bowser, he’s represented as a game token that moves around the board separately from everyone else. He can steal your gold coins, and even your property holdings. At worst, he sends you to jail.
The goal is obviously to be the person with the most gold coins by the end. But that might be easier said than done with Bowser and everyone else scheming to snatch what you have. The game is available starting today at $21.99, and you can find it on Amazon and at other retailers.
