The Best New Netflix Series of 2024 (So Far)

Best New Netflix Series Of 2024 So Far

It’s been a strong start to the year for Netflix, and below, we’ll explore our favorite new series additions of the year so far. We’ll highlight six of the best new series added between January and April 2024, with plans to continue updating this list throughout the year.

This list won’t include any of the new licensed shows that have hit Netflix in the United States or worldwide. In the US alone, Netflix has added north of 2,000 episodes of licensed TV so far this year, and that trend is set to continue. We’ll notably miss out on documentary and reality series from this list (keep an eye on that very soon) and stick solely to English-language scripted series.

Finally, if you want more of the best of 2024 lists so far, check out our picks of the best new movies of the year and the best new K-dramas. For more on what’s coming to Netflix throughout 2024, check out our release schedule guide.

Masters of the Universe: Revolution

Although viewership has dropped on Masters of the Universe: Revolution from the height of popularity (or perhaps just pure intrigue) of Revelation, the show has undoubtedly benefited from not being in the all-destroying eye of the Sauron-like culture wars.

Featuring some excellent voice performances, the 5 episodes that were released in January were tight and action-packed while being an absolute joy to watch.

It’s unclear at the moment whether more Masters of the Universe are on the way (an interview we conducted earlier this year hinted at this), but we’re keeping our fingers and toes crossed.

The Tourist Season 2

The Tourist Season 2 Best New Series Of 2024

Before diving into this one – it’s important to note that The Tourist is only a Netflix Original title in a few select regions, including the US and Latin American regions, with the show locked to other streamers or broadcasters elsewhere. In the UK where I’m from, for example, it’s a BBC show and only available on the iPlayer for the moment.

Despite being a surprise pickup from Max, The Tourist’s second season was an excellent addition to Netflix and builds excellently upon the first season.

In the second season of the show, led by Jamie Dornan, Elliot and his girlfriend Helen journey to Ireland to uncover details about Elliot’s identity, but they instead confront the perilous repercussions of his previous actions.

While arguably not quite as strong as the first season, season 2 is still an excellent twisty adventure with lots of standout performances.

Fool Me Once

We’ll begin with one of three (!) British shows that will feature on this list and was the first major Netflix series released in 2024. We’re referring to the eighth Harlan Coben adaptation and the fourth British one in the form of Fool Me Once.

Featuring the signature sharp writing you’d expect from a Coben adaptation, the script is brought to life by Michelle Keegan (who we’re sure many international audiences weren’t familiar with, to begin with), who leads the ensemble cast with other strong performances being put in by Netflix-regular Richard Armitage, Adeel Akhtar, and Joanna Lumley.

The show was equally loved by critics and presumably audiences, given that it currently ranks among Netflix’s all-time biggest hits. Talk about starting the year off strong!

Baby Reindeer

Baby Reindeer Best Of 2024 Series

I’m taking a giant L on this one! When I first saw Baby Reindeer at Next on Netflix UK, I came away with a note in my notepad reading “WTF,” as the initial trailer gave me weird vibes with the trailer, in my opinion, ultimately struggling to convey the message of what this comedy was about. I was truly left scratching my head about how this would work in practice.

Having now watched the show, I was utterly wrong with the show not taking the piss out of the individual but rather delivering a complex comedy that’s full of deep questions and heart.

Based on a true story previously the subject of a comedy routine, Baby Reindeer tells the story of Richard Gadd’s chance encounter and how offering a cup of tea essentially derailed his life for the next few years.

The Gentlemen

Guy Ritchie has undergone many phases as a creator, writer, and director throughout his career with my first introduction being the timeless movie, Snatch. To me, The Gentlemen is an amalgamation of all his prior works in a succinct and very bingeable package, resulting in one of the best British shows ever made for Netflix.

Complete with the director’s signature comedy and well-written villains, the series takes all the best elements of the 2019 movie and builds upon them with a well-cast ensemble of colorful characters, each as distinguished as the last. It’s a breeze to get started with and fulfilling to get right through to the end.

The show has proved extremely popular, still topping the Netflix UK charts well over a month after its initial debut. Hopefully, there’s more to come!

To call 3 Body Problem a big swing is an understatement. As one of the most expensive shows Netflix has ever assembled, it was a risky endeavor, and I believe it has paid off beautifully.

Now, I won’t say that the series is entirely perfect. Following the big reveal at the end of episode 5, the show does lose its magic ever so slightly. Still, for those first few episodes where David Benioff and D.B Weiss expertly craft a brand new world full of promise and allure (like they did with Game of Thrones), the results are magical, and it was a show I just couldn’t put down.

If we are lucky, we will be able to include the fact that the show has been given a season 2 renewal order by the time we need to update this article midway through the year.
