TECNO has announced the TECNO Pocket Go, an “industry-first” Windows AR gaming set at IFA Berlin 2024. This is one of the few gaming devices to combine Windows 11 PC, Augmented Reality, and portable gaming into one package.

TECNO Pocket Go runs games on a Windows 11 handheld PC with AR glasses

There are multiple high-end gaming handheld devices in the market today. Then there are power-packed, miniaturized Windows 11 gaming consoles with displays and a battery. Lastly, there are Augmented Reality (AR) glasses that project content streamed from a PC.

TECNO has managed to combine all the three abovementioned gaming devices into one. According to TECNO, the TECNO Pocket Go promises, “to bring users a new immersive AR gaming experience, with an advanced headset and the world’s most compact AR Windows handheld”.

Specifically speaking, the Pocket Go is a handheld Windows 11 gaming PC with attached AR glasses. Together, the Pocket Go Windows handheld and the AR Pocket Vision headset attempt to overcome certain limitations of Windows gaming handhelds. Essentially, this device can enhance the portable gaming experience with AR glasses, an aspect that’s noticeably absent in conventional handheld gaming devices.

TECNO Pocket Go specifications, features

The TECNO Pocket Go system comprises two separate devices: Pocket Go Windows handheld and the AR Pocket Vision headset. The handheld is a miniature Windows 11 gaming PC, while the company’s AR glasses offer video output and immersive visual engagement.

TECNO has embedded the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS into the Pocket Go. The CPU packs 8 cores and 16 threads, and it can go up to 5.1GHz. The 35W TDP CPU has “PC-Level Large Cooling Fan and three copper pipes” for heat dissipation. A 50Wh battery powers the Windows 11 gaming handheld.

The Pocket Go’s AR Pocket Vision headset packs a 0.71-inch micro-OLED screen for each eye. TECNO assures these AR glasses can emulate the experience of gaming on a 215-inch television from six meters away. These AR glasses also have adjustable diopter settings of up to 600°. This feature suggests gamers might not need to wear prescription or vision correction glasses while using them.

For game management and finetuning settings, the Pocket Go is complemented by the TECNO Smart Box. Additionally, TECNO assures the entire setup can transition into a mobile workstation within the TECNO ecosystem.

TECNO has announced the new handheld gaming system at the ongoing IFA in Berlin. The company is offering the device for a hands-on experience. However, TECNO hasn’t yet confirmed the price of the TECNO Pocket Go or its availability.
