We most associate TCL with its TVs and smartphones, but the company has a diverse tech palette. Well, CES 2025 is going on, and the company is showing off what kind of tech it has under its sleeve. At CES, TCL gave us a look at its Playcube.
The TCL Playcube could be one of the most unique devices at CES 2025
We’ve seen projectors at the event so far, but this one might be one of the most unique-looking. As stated by the name, the TCL Playcube is cubical in shape, and it’s rather compact. It’s small enough to be placed on a TV stand or nightstand without any issues.
What’s neat about this projector is that it’s ultra-portable. You can comfortably hold it in your hands, so you can take it on the go with you. Also, it’s battery-powered, so you can use it without needing to track down an outlet.
This is a compact projector that runs Google TV. As such, it’s running one of the best TV operating systems on the market. As for the price, specs, and dimensions… TCL didn’t say. It kept that information close to the chest. Looking at the size of the device, we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a 720p or 1080p projector. Its previously released projector, the TCL Projector A1, had a 1080p picture with 360 lumens. So, we can expect the Playcube to be in the same ballpark.
Details are scarce
As for the price, without any knowledge of the specs, it’d be tough to place a price tag on it. For all we know, this could be a top-tier 4K projector or an entry-level 720 projector, and the price will depend on that. One thing we know about TCL, at least for its smartphones and tablets, is that it offers devices at rather reasonable prices. Even its robovac, the Sweeva 6500, was only $499. So, there’s no telling if this will be a budget-friendly projector while offering some killer features.
Only time will tell. We know that Google TV will be a major selling point of the Playcube, but there’s not much more to go on.
