The GTA VI release may have just been teased by Take-Two Interactive, the publishing company behind the game. Details are still light but according to a report by IGN, citing a Take-Two earnings call, the publisher relayed details about upcoming projections for the 2025 and 2026 fiscal year. The projection mentioned is that Take-Two expects to do “$8 billion in net bookings and $1 billion in Adjusted Unrestricted Operating Cash Flow.”
Take-Two also states that in Fiscal 2025, it will “enter a new era by launching several groundbreaking titles that will set new standards in the industry.” The suspicion here is that Grand Theft Auto is potentially the only franchise that would be able to push them forward with this kind of momentum. And since Fiscal 2025 starts in April of 2024, next year may be the release window for GTA VI. This is the next game in the GTA franchise from Rockstar and Take-Two.
The game is also already in development. So it’s not hard to imagine that GTA VI could be one of these games Take-Two is referring to. It’s not a direct confirmation. But it is a hint. However vague it may be.
A GTA VI release in 2024 seems likely
Aside from the teaser, there’s not a whole lot else to suggest exactly when the game is going to release. But as IGN points out there is perhaps something to look at which can further nail down a launch time frame.
And that something is Take-Two’s projections for the fiscal year 2026. Which will take place in April of 2025. Take-Two expects to do even better in the fiscal year 2026 than in the fiscal year 2025. Just as a launch of GTA VI next year seems to be the only likely thing to propel Take-Two’s earnings to such heights, a robust online mode filled with microtransactions for a massive game like GTA VI might be the only thing to elevate Take-Two’s earnings beyond what it’s projecting for the prior year.
None of this is confirmed of course. But it does all make sense. Time will tell what the plan is. But even if the game isn’t coming 2024, it may not be years away.
