T-Mobile has frequently been in the news this year for some good and bad reasons. In response to a backlash from its employees, the smartphone carrier giant has recently restored promotional deals for certain customers including veterans, and more. Now, a new report has suggested that T-Mobile will start offering insurance for a range of Wi-Fi-connected devices as early as next week.
T-Mobile to reportedly launch insurance for Wi-Fi-connected devices with a bunch of benefits
The news comes via Android Authority, which spotted a report by The Mobile Report from earlier this month. In the report, the folks over at The Mobile Report mentioned that new insurance dubbed “Protection 360 HomeTech” will launch on November 19 and will be available for $25 per month (plus applicable tax).
It will reportedly be supported by Assurant, the same insurance provider T-Mobile uses for phones. The new insurance plan from the smartphone carrier giant appears to bring plenty of benefits. It will provide repair and replacement services for accidental damage, power surges, and out-of-warranty mechanical/electrical breakdowns. In case you need to troubleshoot your Wi-Fi-connected devices, 24/7 live tech support will be there for your rescue.
Interestingly, the insurance wouldn’t require device-specific registration or qualifying events to sign up. In addition, you can claim up to $2,000, with a maximum of $5,000 in claims per consecutive 12-month period. Customers enrolled in the new insurance service will be able to make quick and easy claims through a dedicated Protection 360 HomeTech app whenever it’s available.
The insurance will cover twelve different device types
The report further includes a leaked image of a document that appears to be a pamphlet. It has all the necessary details about the insurance including eligible devices. There are a total of 12 device categories including gaming accessories, smart home devices, streaming devices, smart TVs, and more.
What’s best is that eligible devices also include those that aren’t connected to T-Mobile’s network or bought from its store. Worth noting that this optional insurance doesn’t cover smartphones. You should also know that the insurance includes an additional service fee for each claim depending on the device type.
While there’s no additional service fee for gaming accessories, you’ll have to pay a $29 service fee for smart home and streaming devices. Additionally, T-Mobile will charge a service fee of $89 for smart TVs, computers, tablets, printers, digital cameras, connected speakers, and more.
There’s also a QR code in the leaked document that redirects you to a webpage dedicated to the upcoming insurance. However, it isn’t live just yet. All that said, there’s no official word from T-Mobile as of now, but we expect to hear it soon.
