“The story follows Cecilia (Sweeney), a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Her warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside is soon interrupted as it becomes clearer to Cecilia that her new home harbors some dark and horrifying secrets.”

Immaculate is a project that Sweeney has wanted to make for some time, with the actress revealing that they took inspiration from the 1947 British psychological drama, Black Narcissus, which revolves around the growing tensions within a small convent of Anglican sisters.
Asked by Little White Lies whether she got “into nun cinema” to prepare for her role in Immaculate, Sweeney said…
“I did, yeah, some of the older ones, Black Narcissus. I’ve been living with this movie since I was sixteen, wanting to make it for almost ten years, and we were finally able to get a team behind it. This is the first thing I’m fully producing, too, and I’m working with Michael Mohan, who first directed me on Everything Sucks when I was nineteen. He really wants to bring back a certain kind of Hollywood motion picture.”
Thanks to her roles in both Euphoria and The White Lotus, Sydney Sweeney has quickly become one of the most sought-after talents in Hollywood. Alongside Immaculate, Sweeney will soon join the pantheon of superheroes in Madame Web alongside Dakota Johnson, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Tahar Rahim.
Sweeney is clearly not afraid to leap from genre to genre, recently co-leading the romantic comedy Anyone But You with Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell. She is also set to star in the thriller Echo Valley alongside Julianne Moore, and the survival movie Eden from director Ron Howard.
