Google recently announced a couple of new Tiles for Wear OS 3 smartwatches. The Sun and Favorite contacts Tiles are now rolling out to the Pixel Watch and Samsung’s Galaxy Watch lineup. These Tiles respectively give you quick access to the sunrise/sunset time and your favorite contacts on your watch.

The Sun Tile is part of the Weather app for Wear OS. It shows the sunrise/sunset time at the top depending on when you’re looking at it. Below the sunrise/sunset time is a countdown to that time. You can quickly check how much time is left before the Sun goes down for the day. An arc at the bottom further serves as a progress bar for the day. It has a Sun icon moving from left to right indicating how much you’re through the day. The Sun disappears on the right end at sunset and reappears on the left end at sunrise the next day.

Tapping the Sun Tile expectedly opens the Weather app. It automatically scrolls down to a new section in the app mimicking the Tile. This section also shows the night/day length and when the next sunrise/sunset will occur. According to 9to5Google, this Tile appeared on a Pixel Watch after updating to the December patch, which rolled out last week. But the publication notes that it may have arrived through a server-side update. The Sun Tile likely isn’t part of the December update for the first-gen Google smartwatch.

The same is true for the Favorite contacts Tile as well. We already have it on a Galaxy Watch 4 running the November patch. 9to5Google also confirms receiving it on Pixel Watches running both July and December patches. This Tile automatically syncs with the Google Contacts app and shows up to five of your starred contacts, complete with saved avatars. A Contacts button at the bottom lets you open the full list.

Google rolls out new Tiles to Wear OS 3 smartwatches

Google announced the Sun and Favorite contacts Tiles for Wear OS 3 earlier this month. The company also mentioned the new additions during the Pixel’s December Feature Drop. Both of them are now starting to appear for users of the Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch. A wider rollout should be right around the corner. Google’s announcement also included a richer Google Keep notes feed on Wear OS 3. This feature is scheduled to arrive later this month. We will let you know when the rollout begins.
