Super Bowl LVI is set to be played on February 13 at the SoFi Stadium, CA. But unlike in the past seasons, watching the marquee event on your television isn’t as straightforward. You can’t stream the game for free on devices like Chromecast, Roku, Fire TV, or Apple TV. Fans will need a paid subscription to watch the game on their television with a connected TV streaming device.

Previous iterations of the NFL could be streamed without authentication on the TV, but that’s not the case this year. Speaking to The Streamable, NBC confirmed that it would stream Super Bowl LVI on Peacock and the NBC Sports App. However, both will require a paid subscription.

Moreover, watching the game via the NBC Sports App requires users to authenticate using their TV Everywhere credentials from the respective streaming, satellite, or cable provider.

You can still watch Super Bowl LVI for free on your mobile device

The good news is that customers can still watch Super Bowl LVI for free using the NFL and Yahoo! Sports apps for smartphones and tablets. But streaming the game through your living room television will need you to shell out some money.

NBC is expectedly counting on a majority of the fans getting a Peacock Premium subscription. This will set you back by $4.99 per month. In addition to this year’s Super Bowl, Peacock is also streaming the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. This should sweeten the deal for prospective subscribers.

There are a few workarounds for the free TV streaming hurdles for Super Bowl LVI. As The Streamable points out, services like YouTube TV, Sling TV, and fuboTV provide a free trial for their respective live TV streaming services. So if you want to watch the Super Bowl on your TV for free, it makes sense to sign up for these services. Of course, this option won’t work if you’ve subscribed to either of the services in the past.

If you live in an area where the local NBC affiliate is available over-the-air, the solution could be as simple as getting a $10 antenna. But this is more of a conventional workaround and still expensive than just paying for Peacock Premium.

Super Bowl LVI will be played between the Los Angeles Rams, who are at home, and the Cincinnati Bengals in just under two weeks.
