The creative minds behind Stranger Things are teasing a gratifying conclusion to the hit Netflix series with the upcoming fifth season.

Per Deadline, The Duffer Brothers addressed the topic in a panel discussion at Netflix’s Tudum Theater in Los Angeles, explaining that the final season will weave together the multitude of subplots from previous seasons. Fans of the series can expect closure for their favorite characters. Ross Duffer explained:

“But just as important as the supernatural, we have so many characters now, most of whom are still living. It’s important to wrap up those arcs because a lot of these characters have been growing since Season 1. So, it’s a balancing act between giving them time to complete their character arcs, and also tying up these loose ends and doing our final reveals.”

Director-EP Shawn Levy cautiously avoided spoiling what’s coming, but praised the Duffer brothers for not losing sight of the fact that what makes Stranger Things great is that it’s a character-driven story.

“I’m paralyzed with fear that I’ll spoil anything, but I will say, the thing about these Duffer brothers is that even though the show has gotten so famous and the characters have gotten so iconic, and they’re so much about the ’80s and the supernatural and the genre, it’s about these people. It’s about these characters. Season 5 is already so clearly taking care of these stories of characters, because that’s always been the lifeblood of Stranger Things.”

While the Duffer brothers will emphasize the arc of the show’s characters, they must also factor in that The Upside Down is no longer a secret dimension but a terrifying reality for the residents of Hawkins. So, while it will revisit elements of previous seasons, it’s bound to be a completely different animal.

The Duffer brothers also teased that the script for episode one of season five is already complete and work has started on episode two, with Netflix recently revealing that the episode title is “Chapter One: The Crawl”.

It’s going to be a nail-biting wait until the final season of Stranger Things drops in 2024. From what the Duffer brothers have disclosed so far, it’s going to be well worth the wait.

Stranger Things is streaming on Netflix.
