Game companies and eSports events are no strangers to partnering with peripheral brands, especially when those brands are as renowned as SteelSeries, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that SteelSeries has been named the official headset partner for Capcom Cup X.
It’s not just any of SteelSeries‘ headsets, however. It’s the Arctis Nova Pro. The wireless version of which we reviewed and found to be the best gaming headset on the market overall. A title I still feel SteelSeries is worthy of keeping. Even with some excellent competition, and there’s no shortage of that these days. Speaking of competitions, Capcom X is the final tournament in the Capcom Pro Tour. The winner of this tournament will be named the best player in the world for Street Fighter 6, Capcom’s latest fighting game in the long-running series.
The tournament will start with 48 players, all of whom will compete while wearing an Arctis Nova Pro headset. Now this is the wired version, so there are no removable batteries and no Bluetooth compatibility. But all other features are the same, which means enhanced sound for truly immersive gaming audio, Sonar software game profiles, and more.
Capcom Cup X won’t be the first tournament partnership for SteelSeries
SteelSeries has been around for over two decades and in that time has established itself as one of the best gaming peripheral brands on the market. It’s also been the official headset partner for more than just the upcoming Capcom Cup X tournament. Back in 2021, it was named the official peripheral brand for The International Dota 2 Championships. It partners with more than a few eSports teams well. Including FaZe Clan, T1 Entertainment & Sports, Red Bull OG, and others.
Tournament competitors will fight for a $1 Million USD grand prize
If you were ever in doubt that eSports is still a big thing, look no further than this year’s grand prize for the winner of Capcom Cup X. Out of 48 players, one will end up winning the grand prize of $1 Million USD. That’s a staggering amount for any single person to take home as the winner of an eSports tournament. It’s far from the largest prize though. Nor is it the only prize for the tournament. The total prize pool for Capcom Cup X is $2 million. So even those who don’t walk away as the grand prize winner still get something.
But $2 million also pales in comparison to some of the largest prize pools in eSports. A Statista report from this month ranks the top eSports prize pools of all time. The chart-topper is The International 2021 for Dota 2, which saw a total prize pool of $40.2 Million USD spread across 18 teams. A little over $18 million of that went to the winning team (Team Spirit), which comes out to around $3.6 million each if it was split equally among all five players on the roster. The total grand prize winnings were $18.2 Million, which is about $3.64 Million if you want to get specific.
The point is, there’s a lot of money to be made in eSports still. If you’re someone who’s good enough to compete at that level.
