Apple is still utilizing displays with a 60Hz refresh rate on its standard iPhones, despite their price tags. Both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have them. Well, that could change with the iPhone 17, as Apple could finally introduce a high refresh rate display(s) to the standard model(s).
The standard iPhone 17 could get a high refresh rate display, finally
This information comes from Digital Chat Station, one of the most reliable tipsters out there. He bases that information on details from supply chain materials. We still don’t know what will the top refresh rate be, exactly.
He did not specifically mention ‘ProMotion’ or a 120Hz refresh rate. So, Apple could go for a 90Hz refresh rate display instead. That’s not as likely, however. If Apple makes a jump, chances are it’ll be a jump to a 120Hz panel.
Apple is expected to use LTPO panels for all its iPhone 17 models, both standard and Pro models. That should boost efficiency and also enable 120Hz refresh rates on standard models too.
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models both support ‘ProMotion’ displays. Their refresh rate can go from 1 to 120Hz, which improves efficiency and boosts Apple’s always-on display functionality.
The iPhone 17 Slim is expected to arrive instead of the iPhone 17 Plus
Now, in 2025, Apple is tipped to announce the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The ‘Plus’ model will be replaced with the all-new ‘Slim’ unit. Those devices will likely arrive in September.
Outside of the iPhone 17 series, however, Apple is also expected to announce a new ‘SE’ model in 2025. Quite soon, actually. The iPhone SE 4 is tipped to arrive in Q1 2025 with Apple’s in-house 5G modem. March has been mentioned as the launch month. It remains to be seen if the rumors are accurate, though.
