Google is starting to push the 1440p resolution option for Stadia out to subscribers today, opening up another option for players in addition to 1080p and 4K. According to Stadia Source (via 9To5Google), the option is beginning to roll out for the web browser. The setting was initially spotted by user Stefan Dehnert on Twitter.
Technically this isn’t the first time 1440p resolution has been available. Google officially announced that support was added for Chrome users back in May of 2020. But at that time it wasn’t actually possible to select 1440p as a resolution quality in the settings. As 9To5Google points out, it would work if you had the right conditions for your setup. Which required setting the resolution option to 4K while using a monitor that was above 1080p resolution but not capable of 4K.
Users can soon select 1440p resolution as a quality option for Stadia on the web
To be clear, this is still likely only going to be available for users who stream games through the Stadia website in the browser. As it’s not known if any other platforms currently have support for the resolution option. The difference is that now you’ll be able to select 1440p as an option. You will still need a compatible monitor however.
Also worth noting is that 1440p is going to be exclusive to Stadia Pro subscribers. Much like 4K resolution is. So if you’re a free Stadia subscriber, you’ll have to stick with 1080p or 720p.
It’s unclear how widespread the rollout is at the moment, but we can confirm that it is live. As we were able to select the option from settings via the Stadia website. Selecting 1440p uses up about 14.4GB an hour, which is significantly less than the 4K option but not too much more than the 1080p option. So even if you have the option for 4K, it might be worth selecting 1440p instead to save some data usage.
Der 1440p Modus ist ab sofort per Web verfügbar und wird langsam ausgerollt.
