Following the Oscar-winning of 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be no easy task, but writer and producer Chris Miller has already teased how well the follow-up will build on its predecessor, comparing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to one of the greatest sequels of all time: Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back.

“People who’ve seen Across… have told us that it feels like The Empire Strikes Back of the Spider-Verse franchise,” he revealed. “It shows you worlds you haven’t seen, and it’s an emotional story that ends in a place where you need to see the third one. So, yeah: this is our Empire.”

If that were not already enough of a hint towards the epic scope of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, director Joaquim Dos Santos has since stated that “Each world is a robust place. We’ve essentially made five films in one.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2023. A further sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is scheduled for release on March 29, 2024.
