After much anticipation, Sony has finally revealed the first-look footage of the much-awaited Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel. The upcoming film featuring Miles Morales and his friends from across dimensions will be called Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, according to the teaser trailer. From what the teaser has revealed, fans are in for yet another beautiful Spider-Verse film, with its trademark pop-art/graphic novel visuals.

The upcoming film’s Producer Christopher Miller and co-director Kemp Powers had both been teasing the fans on Twitter about a major reveal about the film since Saturday. Miller posted a photo of a truck with the logo from the “Today” show, and Powers teased that he would be revealing something about the latest Spider-Man movie as well.

And after a long wait, the first look footage of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally here. It seems the upcoming film will pick up where it left off, as the footage opens with Miles (voiced by Shameik Moore) chilling in his room, listening to the Post Malone-Swae Lee chartbuster ‘Sunflower’ on his headphones when Gwen Stacy (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) comes to visit. She then urges Miles to follow her (although he is grounded), and they leap into a myriad of portals and dimensions. During his spectacular journey through the multiverse, he is joined by Spider-Man 2099, the iconic futuristic web-crawler from the comics who was shown in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

What is notable in the teaser is how this film is called Across the Spider-Verse Part 1, hinting at even more sequels following Miles’ journey with his interdimensional friends. However, the trailer does not hint at who the webheads will be fighting in this film, with Kingpin behind bars since the last one.

In terms of visuals, looks like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be living up to the expectations set by its predecessor. Into the Spider-Verse was one of the most successful Spider-Man films across all the production houses, and the animation style even earned the film an Oscar for Best Animated Feature, a first for Sony Animations. The film even went on to gross $375.5 million worldwide. However, unlike the first one, the second Spider-Verse film might face tough competition from Spider-Man: No Way Home, the MCU film dabbling in the multiverse concept as well.

Christopher Miller, Phil Lord, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg will be producing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and it will be co-produced by Alonzo Ruvalcaba. The co-director of the first film, Peter Ramsey, will be the executive producer, along with Aditya Sood.

As of now, the film is set to release in October 2022 in the US.
