Space Jam: A New Legacy

After an entire quarter of a century, Space Jam: A New Legacy has finally arrived, and while it’s more than likely going to knock the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Widow off the top of the box office when the dust settles at the end of the weekend, the blockbuster looks to be splitting opinion right down the middle.

The original is hardly held up as a bastion of cinematic excellence, but its heart was at least in the right place, whereas A New Legacy is essentially two hours of Warner Bros. patting themselves on the back for the extensive roster of properties and recognizable brands they’ve managed to acquire under one roof.

Did you know that Mad Max, Austin Powers, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, It, King Kong, The Iron Giant, the entire DC Universe, The Matrix and many more don’t just belong to WB, but are also available to stream on HBO Max? Don’t worry if you didn’t, because you definitely will by the time the Space Jam sequel ends.

Needless to say, fans have been taking to social media in their droves to offer their reactions to what may well go down in the history books as 2021’s most divisive blockbuster, and you can check out some of the responses below.

There’s a good movie buried somewhere deep within the DNA of Space Jam: A New Legacy, but it would be fair to say that director Malcolm D. Lee never finds it. Instead, the entire operation is intent to keep nodding towards the long and illustrious history of the studio at the expense of such trivialities as plot, characters and even the Looney Tunes themselves.
