The PlayStation 30th anniversary is here and to celebrate the big milestone, Sony is releasing a handful of limited edition PS5 consoles and accessories that will delight anyone who grew up with the original PlayStation console. There are several products being released, but some of them will only be available as part of very limited bundles.
These releases will include a limited-edition PS5 Pro, which might just get more people interested in buying one. When Sony announced the PS5 Pro earlier this month, it also announced the $700 price tag. Not too many people were happy about this cost. But if there were any reservations about buying one, this might do away with those.
With that being said, Sony stresses that these are indeed limited. For starters, Sony is launching a PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Collection bundle that will be available in “highly limited quantities.” There will only be 12,300 of them made. Pre-orders for the bundle and all other products will begin on September 26, so you have just a week to get your money in order. Sony doesn’t mention how much anything will cost, however. So it’s unclear what prices consumers will need to pay.
The PlayStation 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle comes with a bunch of extras
All of Sony’s PlayStation 30th Anniversary products look quite good but there is one item that clearly stands above the rest. This is the PS5 Pro bundle which comes with all the extras. For starters, it comes with the PS5 Pro console that has 2TB of storage, as well as a limited edition DualSense controller. On top of that, it comes with the DualSense Edge controller (and all of its extras including the hard shell case), a charging cradle that can charge both controllers, a vertical stand, a console cover for the disc drive, and a PS1-style cable connector housing.
Speaking about the DualSense controller and the cable connector specifically, it looks quite similar to the one Sony gave Jim Ryan for his retirement party last December. Sony is also throwing in a few little goodies. These include a paper clip shaped like the PlayStation icon, some PlayStation-themed cable ties, a PlayStation sticker, and a PlayStation poster.
Although Sony doesn’t mention a cost for any of this, we can make some educated guesses. Considering the PS5 Pro costs $700, and the DualSense Edge costs $200, this bundle will be no less than $900. Realistically it’s going to be more than that. The pricing for the regular charging cradle and new vertical stand is $30 each. The disc drive console cover is also $30. So excluding the little extra goodies, the total cost for all of these items in their regular form is $990. That being said, there’s surely going to be an upcharge because this is a highly limited edition item.
So consumers might want to expect upwards of $1,100 or even more to pick up this bundle.
There will be a PS5 Digital bundle and a limited edition PlayStation Portal as well
If you’re not hot on throwing down all that money for the PS5 Pro bundle, you have other options. There will be a PS5 Digital Edition (slim) bundle for the 30th anniversary as well. This will come with the vertical stand and the disc drive console cover, as well as the extra goodies like the paperclip and cable connector housing. It does not come with the DualSense Edge or the charging cradle. The good news is that you can buy the DualSense Edge limited edition as a standalone item as well.
Sony is also launching a limited edition PlayStation Portal and a limited edition DualSense controller. The DualSense controller will be sold separately just like the DualSense Edge. So if this is all you want, you can pick it up as a standalone item. It doesn’t appear to come with that special PS1-style cable connector housing, though.
Pre-orders begin next week on September 26 for the PS5 Pro bundle, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, and DualSense controller. Sony says that regions where PlayStation Direct isn’t available will still have the chance to pre-order, with pre-orders going through retail partners in those regions. For the PS5 Digital Edition bundle, pre-orders will begin on October 10.
