We’re at a point in time now where most of the big media companies are either merging with others or buying out other services. Amazon bought MGM, Warner Brothers merged with Discovery, and so on. Well, we just got word of another acquisition that could take place. According to the report, Sony and investment firm Apollo are in talks to acquire Paramount.
Paramount has been making waves lately for its streaming service Paramount+. The streaming service has had some success in the market with originals like School Spirits in the upcoming Knuckles spin-off show. It allows people to watch content from classic TV channels like Nickelodeon, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Showtime, Etc.
Sony is in talks to acquire Paramount
Right now, Paramount has been the subject of a new major potential acquisition. There are a few companies looking to buy/merge with Paramount for an undisclosed amount of money. One company looking to merge with it is Warner Brothers Discovery. Ever since last year, this company has been looking to merge with Paramount, but we’re not sure if Warner Brothers Discovery has made any moves since the original announcement.
Now, according to new reports, it appears that Sony is looking to acquire Paramount. Again, we don’t know how much money Sony, but Apollo gave Sony a few numbers. At first, it suggested $11 billion for the Paramount Pictures film studio. However, it then suggested $26 billion for Paramount Global.
If Sony does buy Paramount, it will give Sony its own streaming service. Nowadays, most major media companies have a streaming service. Either that, or they were acquired by a company with one. However, Sony has been left out. Its name was on the Crackle app a few years ago, but that was short-lived.
If Sony does acquire Paramount, then we’re fairly certain that the same thing will happen to it that happened to HBO Max/Discovery+, Disney+/Hulu, Amazon Prime/MGM, Etc. We’re pretty sure that Sony will merge its content with Paramount’s content and offer its movies through Paramount+. Who’s to say that Sony won’t change Paramount+ his name?
Paramount could be involved in a merger
Aside from being purchased by either Warner Bros Discovery or Sony, Paramount may have a merger on its hands. Its controlling company, National Amusements, signed off on a deal that would merge it with Skydance Media. This company is responsible for movies such as Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1, Spy Kids Armageddon, Transformers: Rise of the Beast, the upcoming Marvel 1943: rise of Hydra game, Etc.
So, it appears that Paramount should expect some changes in the near future. We will keep you updated as more news about this subject comes out.
