April Fools’ is usually reserved for mostly lame jokes and plenty of companies observe this strange holiday, but not SEGA this year, which just launched The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog on Steam today.
Yes, we know April Fools’ Day is tomorrow here in the states, but most companies have been putting out their jokes early. SEGA however, chose to observe April Fools’ by putting out a very real game in which Sonic actually dies. Yes, the Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is a real game that you can play right now on your PC. “Happy April Fools’ Day (observed)! Except it’s real. Enjoy!” the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account says.
If you’re not quite ready to see the blue blur in such a state, maybe go play Sonic Frontiers instead. Or any number of other Sonic games where the heroic hedgehog saves the day from Dr. Eggman and his goons. But if you’re up for a delightfully weird take on the franchise, give this riveting whodunit a go.
The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is a free game on Steam
The biggest reason to play this game is because you love Sonic games, and you wanted to try something different. The other reason is because the game is free game on Steam. It’s probably not a very long game, but you should get a few hours of enjoyment out of it from start to finish. Though truth be told, we have no actual idea how long it is since we haven’t played through most of it yet.
This is a visual novel game with point and click adventure elements. So it’s pretty easy going and a very casual gameplay experience if you want something low-stress. Your goal throughout the game is to solve the mystery of Sonic’s murder. Familiar characters abound in this murder mystery, with the likes of Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose and more here to help you crack the case!
Happy April Fool’s Day (observed)!
Except it’s real.https://t.co/eJffYnsefb
Enjoy!
