The official synopsis for the movie is as follows:

Jess (Dani Barker) has finally found her hook: secretly filming creepy interactions she encounters via online job listings, and using the kinks of others to fuel her streaming success. For her next episode, she’s been hired by Tom (Luke Cook) to write the ending of a screenplay in a remote, lavish cabin. Once there, the alluring self-proclaimed screenwriter hands her a script in which the two of them are the main characters. This client isn’t what he seems, and even though the money’s great… the real payment here could cost her life. Follow Her is a psycho-sexual thriller which questions the ethical boundaries of social media.

“The first day we came on to set, we had to shoot the sexual scene first,” Cook said in an interview with MovieWeb of filming the movie’s steamiest scenes first with his co-star Barker. “Dani puts her foot in my mouth, and we — Dani and I — had just met in real life, so that was incredibly intense for me. For some reason, and I’m not a prude, I was like, ‘I’m not ready for this. I don’t want to do this now. I want to get to know Dani a little bit, and maybe we can ease into that later.’”

Cook added, “Sometimes filming those kinds of scenes first happens [with scheduling]. So, we shot that, and it was very intimate, very quickly. I’ve heard about directors doing that. It’s a technique used to get their actors as close to each other right off the bat. And it worked.”

The film gets very dark, however, as Barker also told us about how the film has been able to frighten viewers with its more “chilling” moments, especially with the Hitchcockian-style moments..

“It always surprises me how scared people can get when watching it, basically the horror element of it,” she said. “And there’s some there are some nuggets planted in the movie that not everyone sees. I don’t want to give anything away, but there’s some Hitchcockian things throughout that if you’re not watching carefully, you will miss it. All that, for me, were the most chilling moments.”

Follow Her is available to watch now in select theaters as well as on VOD outlets, per Quiver Distribution. You can read our official review here.
