The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC could launch in May, according to a new report. This chip will be manufactured by TSMC, and based on reports, it’s expected to offer better thermals, and better overall performance than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ could launch in May, will be manufactured by TSMC
Considering that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 gets quite toasty, these are great news. If it does end up launching in May, quite a few smartphones may grab it before the end of the year.
This chip will be made using TSMC’s 4nm node, and the chip is expected to throttle a lot less than the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. TSMC’s 4nm process is allegedly way more efficient.
Now, if this chip does in fact launch in May, we may even see some smartphone announcements in May. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to utilize this chip, the OnePlus 10 Ultra, and some other devices that are rumored.
We’re not sure when those will be announced, but some of those smartphone announcements may happen before this processor becomes available even. Those companies may announce their devices in May, and start selling them in July, or something of the sort.
Quite a few phones are rumored to utilize this chip
As already mentioned, we’re not yet sure when will those phones be announced, but quite a few of them are rumored to utilize TSMC’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variant. Its model number is ‘SM8475’, by the way.
Now, Qualcomm is also expected to announce a new Snapdragon 7-series processor around that time. Who knows, both chips may arrive at the same time, we’ll have to wait and see.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is already being used by a lot of phones. It generally performs well, but it does heat up quite a bit. That hasn’t turned out to be an issue thus far, but it does make most phones get quite warm to the touch.
