Metaverse is taking on music concerts, and in a new experiment, Jennifer Lopez and Colombian pop singer Maluma will hold a virtual concert hosted by Snapchat. The event will take place on February 3rd and last for 10 minutes. Fans can attend the show with their Bitmoji avatars.

According to Engadget, the concert won’t be on the Snapchat app, and there is a dedicated website for it. However, you will need Snapchat login information for logging in to the website. The concert is watched by the spectators appearing as Bitmoji avatars. Moreover, Jennifer Lopez and Maluma will also have their own 3D avatars.

Interactive effects are also a part of the show. For example, fans can start “the wave” and trigger a virtual laser effect.

Metaverse could be the future of events

These days we hear the name Metaverse more than ever. The importance of Metaverse has grown so much that many companies, including the former Facebook and Meta today, have focused and invested heavily in it.

Music concerts and various events can be ideal hosts for Metaverse. This concept is still in its infancy and needs further development. Fortnite is currently hosting in-game concerts, and this is an example of the future of Metaverse. The Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney says that they want to be the leader of Metaverse.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has repeatedly stressed the importance of Metaverse for future events. He had previously said in a letter that people could “teleport instantly as a hologram” to go to an event.

Snapchat also wants to be a player in the Metaverse game. The AR exec Sophia Dominguez has previously said that they don’t want to “escape into another world.” However, they want to create experiences that can bridge physical spaces with virtual ones.

“I think the basic notion was that you know as the physical world was sort of crumbling in this dystopian future that people would escape into this virtual world — that’s not at all a focus for us,” Snap CEO Evan Spiegel noted.

Virtual concerts are still a new concept and need further development. But Snap can also host more virtual concerts in the future. Sporting events can also use Metaverse for similar experiences.
