Hollywood icon and action movie superstar Sylvester Stallone will take center stage in Sly, a new documentary about the actor. Coming courtesy of Netflix, Sly will explore the career of Stallone, who has been a major A-lister and box office draw for nearly half a century thanks to roles in the likes of the Rocky franchise, the Rambo franchise, and much, much more. Check out the first trailer for Sly below.

“For nearly 50 years Sylvester Stallone has entertained millions with iconic characters and blockbuster franchises, from Rocky to Rambo to The Expendables. This retrospective documentary offers an intimate look at the Oscar-nominated actor-writer-director-producer, paralleling his inspirational underdog-story with the indelible characters he has brought to life.”

According to Netflix, Sly will look past the iconic roles he’s played, such as Rocky and Rambo, and instead look at the life and times of the star. A life “made for the movies.” Given exclusive access to the man himself, Sly “is a documentary that’s as much about the life and career of the Oscar-nominated actor-writer-director-producer as it is about the characters he’s brought to life over the years.” Drawing a parallel between Stallone and the “indelible characters he’s played,” Sly will paint an intimate portrait of one of Hollywood’s most famous faces (and voices).

Sly is due to land on Netflix in November.

Sly Will Explore the Highs & the Lows of Sylvester Stallone’s Long Career

“Do I have regrets? Hell, yeah, I have regrets,” Stallone says in the footage, which promises to center on the actor as he analyzes his decade-spanning career. Both the highs and the lows. “What is healthier? to live under the illusion that you could have been great, or actually have an opportunity to be great, and then you blow it and you realize you’re a failure?”

Directed by Thom Zinny (Springsteen on Broadway, The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash), Sly will take an intimate look at the long career of Sylvester Stallone who, at 76 years of age, is still going strong. The action star can currently be seen leading his first small screen project, Tulsa King, which finds Stallone starring as a Mafia capo just out of prison who is sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he begins to set up a criminal organization. The series marks Stallone’s first leading role in a scripted television series and was met with favorable reviews. Tulsa King has since been renewed for a second season.

Stallone will also feature in the action movie sequel, Expend4bles, which will see the actor pass the torch to fellow action star Jason Statham and leaving him to deal with whatever world-ending threat is on the cards this time. Expend4bles is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 22, 2023, by Lionsgate. If that were not already enough, Stallone will also return to the world of Cliffhanger in a legacy sequel and continue his action hero tenure in Never Too Old to Die.

Alongside big screen and small screen stories, Stallone has also taken a big step into reality television series in The Family Stallone courtesy of MTV Entertainment Studios and Bunim/Murray Productions. Featuring the personal lives of Sylvester Stallone, his wife Jennifer Flavin, and their daughters Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet, The Family Stallone premiered on Paramount+ in May and has also since been renewed for a second season.
