Netflix takes audiences into the dreamworld (a different one from The Sandman) in the first trailer for the upcoming fantasy adventure flick, Slumberland. Released courtesy of the official Netflix YouTube channel, Slumberland finds Aquaman star Jason Momoa as a horned creature who takes a girl on an adventure through the land of dreams. Please, if you will, check out the trailer for Slumberland below.
Alongside the first footage from Slumberland, a general release date for the Netflix outing has also now been unveiled, with Slumberland set to drift onto Netflix this November. While a more specific date has not yet been given, several reports have claimed Slumberland will be available to stream from November 18.
Based on the comic book series “Little Nemo in Slumberland” from 1905 by Winsor McCay, Slumberland centers on a young girl, an 11-year-old named Nema rather than Nemo in the movie, who discovers a secret map to the dreamworld of the titular Slumberland. Nema enjoys living in a lighthouse with her father, Peter, who has taught her how to sail. Sadly, following Peter’s apparent death while at sea, Nema is sent to live with her estranged uncle Philip, who is dull and nothing like her father.
Slumberland follows Nema as she discovers a secret map to the dreamworld of Slumberland, and with the help of an eccentric outlaw named Flip, who happens to be a half-man/half-monster creature and claims to have known Peter years ago, sets off on an adventure with the hope that she will be able to see her late father once again.
Alongside the vibrant, ethereal landscapes of the dreamworld, the first trailer for Slumberland offers our first look at Momoa in action, with the behemoth action star playing a different role than what audiences are used to. Rather than being a grizzled, muscular action man, Momoa possesses a much more eccentric, peculiar presence as he takes Nema through the dreamworld and on a variety of fun adventures.
Slumberland Will Drift onto Netflix This November
Directed by Francis Lawrence (Constantine, I Am Legend, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) from a script by David Guion and Michael Handelman, Slumberland stars Marlow Barkley as Nema alongside Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and Dune star Jason Moma as Flip, a nine-foot-tall creature that is half-man, half-beast, has shaggy fur and long curved tusks.
The rest of the Slumberland cast includes Weruche Opia, India de Beaufort, Kyle Chandler, and Chris O’Dowd. Slumberland is produced by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready through their production company Chernin Entertainment which previously worked with Lawrence on See and Red Sparrow.
Slumberland is due to debut on Netflix in November 2022. The fantasy adventure is just one of several major releases set to hit Netflix this year, with the likes of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, The School for Good and Evil, the comedy Me Time starring Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg, and the NC-17 Marilyn Monroe biopic, Blonde, starring Ana De Armas still due to debut on the streaming platform in 2022.
