The Apple TV+ flick Sharper brings a slate of A-list talent together for a unique, twisted heist in New York City.
Those who frequent the ever-growing movie catalog on Apple+ can now look forward to another exciting upcoming flick. The official trailer for a new heist thriller titled Sharper debuted earlier today on Youtube. The film is yet another collaboration between Apple+ and A24 Productions. The official trailer for Sharper can be found below.
The official synopsis of the movie from Apple+ reads as:
“No one is who they seem in Sharper, a neo-noir thriller of secrets and lies, set amongst New York City’s bedrooms, barrooms and boardrooms. Characters compete for riches and power in a high stakes game of ambition, greed, lust and jealousy that will keep audiences guessing until the final moment.”
As the trailer shows, the premise centers around a small, wealthy family in New York City that gets progressively torn apart by secrets, lies, and the theft that orchestrates all of it. A young man named Max (Sebastian Stan) is an amateur con man who partakes in another of his scams and, at one point, gets caught and accosted by his mother (Julianne Moore), who sees right through him. A rift is visible between them, as while ostracizing him, she’s since entered a new relationship with a local billionaire, mainly for the wealth.
Max clearly disapproves of his mother’s choices and orchestrates an unprecedented theft of millions, if not billions. He teams up with a friend (Briana Middleton) to seduce the billionaire’s son (Justice Smith), all to make off with the wealth said son was to inherit. The trailer seems to stay vague enough to leave the audience hanging on the final tagline, “Can You Read Between the Lies?”. The film will undoubtedly prove to be a polished, gripping thriller and yet another stellar performance from its stars. Sharper is set to release in select theaters on Feb. 10 and then move exclusively to stream on Apple+ one week later on Feb. 17.
Apple+ is Becoming Formidable as it Amasses More A-list Talent and Puts Out More Groundbreaking Titles
Sharper (2023) is yet another superbly crafted project Apple+ has added to its significantly growing archive of films and not the first project the company has collaborated with A24 Productions on. Past titles include the romantic drama CODA (2021), which earned the first Oscar for Best Picture ever on an exclusive streaming platform. Spirited (2022), a musical comedy starring Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, and Octavia Spencer, which broke records to become the biggest movie ever on the platform and hasn’t been ruled out of Oscar buzz. Emancipation (2022), which stars Will Smith and Ben Foster, led to a 27% increase in viewership on Apple+ and led to the film becoming number one in several countries worldwide.
2023 is sizing to be an even more monumental year, as a film helmed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro called Killers of the Flower Moon headlines the roster. Another film titled Argylle stars Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard and is directed by Matthew Vaughn, Tetris directed by Jon S. Baird, and of course, Ridley Scott’s new historical drama Napoleon, which stars Joaquin Phoenix.
