As audiences have learned through many horror films, the results are never pretty when conjuring games go wrong. A24 has unveiled the second trailer for its new supernatural horror Talk to Me, which explores the repercussions of a party game to contact spirits.

In her film debut, newcomer Sophie Wilde portrays Mia, a woman who has recently lost her mom. At a party, Mia plays a game where she must touch an embalmed hand and speak the words “talk to me” to allow a spirit to enter her body. The caveat is that this possession must be timed, and if it goes on for longer than 90 seconds, “they’ll want to stay.” Check out the new trailer below:

The trailer details Mia’s life along with her disturbingly euphoric response to the game, as she could “see and feel everything on the other side.” She takes the hand with her, which leads to contact with her deceased mother, the eerie trailer continuing to highlight Mia’s visions and possession, and the reactions of everyone in her orbit.

Along with Wilde, the film stars Chris Alosio (Surviving Summer), Zoe Terakes (Wentworth), Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King), Joe Bird (First Day), Alexandra Jensen (Beat), Otis Dhanji (Aquaman), Marcus Johnson (The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee), and Alexandria Steffensen (How to Please a Woman).

In January, Variety reported that A24 had acquired the North American rights to Talk to Me following its Sundance premiere. A24 is the famous production company behind films like Everything Everywhere All At Once, Uncut Gems, Midsommar, Lady Bird, and series including Euphoria and Beef.

They’ve also increasingly become the premiere distributor of elevated horror, releasing some of the very best films of the genre in recent years — X, Pearl, Men, It Comes at Night, Hereditary, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Monster, Under the Skin, The Lighthouse, Saint Maud, The Witch, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Midsommar, and more. It’s an incredible pedigree, so with A24’s backing and the film’s positive reviews, Talk to Me is already bringing in high expectations for its July 28th premiere.

Talk to Me is the brainchild of Australian twin brothers Michael and Danny Philippou, the YouTubers behind the popular RackaRacka channel. The channel, which features videos that are generally a mix of comedy and horror, garnered attention to the tune of more than six million subscribers. Talk to Me marks the Philippou brothers’ directorial debut and is written by Danny and Bill Hinzman.

During the film’s Sundance debut, the Philippou brothers spoke to Collider about the film, hinting at the possibility of a sequel:

“Even down to the writing on the hand. There’s a lore and a story and a deep mythology. Even the spirits that are connecting with every character’s emotions. Everything’s really thought out and put through a mythology hopefully we can expand on if we were able to do a sequel. But yeah, we wanted the characters to be out of their depths. We didn’t explore it that much, so we just sort of hinted at it with the characters. But yes, everything’s ironed out and there’s a whole big bible. It’s called the mythology bible. So we’ve got that.” Danny said.

From A24, Talk to Me will be in theaters everywhere July 28th. You can check out the first trailer below:
