The Ghostface killer is back in the first trailer for Scream VI, and this time, he’s taking a bloody bite out of the Big Apple. Released courtesy of Paramount Pictures, Scream VI follows several of the new characters introduced in this year’s Scream to New York City. Unfortunately, terror is along for the ride. Check out the newly released trailer for Scream VI below.
Scream VI picks up with the survivors of the latest Ghostface killings, sisters Samantha and Tara Carpenter and twins Chad and Mindy Meeks, as they leave Woodsboro behind them in hopes of starting a new chapter of their lives in New York City. Of course, rather than leave the murder and mayhem in their rearview mirror, they will instead take it with them to New York City and once again be plagued by a streak of murders by a new Ghostface killer.
The slasher sequel stars Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter, Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter, Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, alongside Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Jack Champion, Devyn Nekoda, Liana Liberato, and Josh Segarra.
While Scream VI will be the first in the franchise not to feature Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Scream staple Courteney Cox will reprise the role of Gale Weathers, with Scream 4 star Hayden Panettiere also set to return as Kirby Reed, a survivor of the 2011 Ghostface serial murders.
Scream VI Will be Gorier & More Disturbing Than Ever Before
The stars of Scream VI have not been able to help hype up the blood and gore that will be on display in the slasher sequel. Actress Melissa Barrera, who was introduced as Samantha Carpenter in the 2022 reboot of the franchise, has called the follow-up “a hundred times gorier” than anything horror fans have seen from the franchise before.
“There was a saying on set because (directors) Matt and Tyler were always asking for more blood and more sweat,” she explained. “They always just wanted more. “More blood spritz” was the saying because they would just always want more. With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been, up until that point, and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay. But with this one, they were like, ‘We’re going all out.’ It’s potentially a hundred times gorier.”
And if one hundred times gorier was not already enough, Barrera has also called Scream 6 “20 times more mortifying” thanks in large part to the change of scenery. “It’s, like 20 times more mortifying. It’s awful,” she said. “Because you also see how, in a city like New York City, everyone is kind of doing their own thing and someone is screaming for help, and no one will come to their help. No one comes to help them, you know, like, everyone’s kind of like, “I’m not getting into that.” So it’s mortifying, because you’re chased by Ghostface, but you also see humanity and how that reacts in a situation like that. Anyway, I think I’ve already probably said too much.”
Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, Scream VI is scheduled to be released on March 10, 2023.
