Walmart is planning an upcoming event where you may be able to score a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. The event will be this month, called Gamer Drop, and it’ll be an in-store affair as opposed to online restocks like it has been doing.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles are extremely popular and were released last November. But their availability has been notoriously scant. And more than a year later, nothing has changed. They’re still just as hard to get as they were last year. Both during the pre-order phase and post-launch.
Retailers have been trying to change that though. By offering more restocks more frequently. Walmart’s latest attempt will be the Gamer Drop in-store event. Where it will offer both consoles as well as the Nintendo Switch OLED, the newest titles, and accessories for them. Here’s the need to know.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X Gamer Drop event at Walmart is on Dec. 11
If you still don’t have a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S and want yet another chance to get one, the Gamer Drop is probably your best chance before the holidays. It happens on December 11, and will be at local Walmart stores across the country.
There is a caveat though. Walmart’s landing page for the event states that not all stores will have stock. More specifically it says, not available in all stores. That doesn’t explicitly state what won’t be available. But it’s a safe bet that means the event, which also probably means consoles.
The good news is that there’s an easy way to check. On the landing page, which you can access here, you can enter your city, state, or zip code to check and see if any stores nearby your location will be hosting the Gamer Drop.
The event will last all day
If you’re near a participating store, the event will last all day. Starting at 10:30AM in the morning local time, and going until 7PM local time that evening. Though Walmart isn’t mentioning details on stock, chances are that stock of the consoles, and some accessories won’t last long.
In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if all stock was gone within minutes of the stores letting people in to purchase. Still, this is likely a better alternative than trying to fight with bots online who will almost always beat you to the checkout line.
