The latest teaser for the upcoming horror prequel Saw X invites you play a game of Operation. Well, Saw-peration to be precise. Check out the new teaser for Saw X below:
While John Kramer, aka Jigsaw has always been the antagonist of the series, Saw X will see him in the “hero” role, according to cinematographer Nick Matthews. “John is absolutely… the protagonist in this movie,” Matthews revealed recently. “He is a man who’s ill. He’s a guy who was looking to extend his life. And in this process of him thinking, he’s getting his life extended, sh*t goes down. There it is, but he’s absolutely the hero of this movie.”
Set between the events of Saw and Saw II, Saw X finds a sick and desperate John Kramer heading to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer — only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged and ingenious traps.
Directed by Kevin Greutert, who returns to the Saw franchise after helming the best reviewed of the sequels (Saw VI) and the worst (Saw 3D aka Saw: The Final Chapter), Saw X has been written by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger (Jigsaw, Spiral: From the Book of Saw). The tenth installment in the Saw movie series, will Saw X see the horror saga return to the glory days of its first outing?
Led by Tobin Bell as John Kramer/Jigsaw, the rest of the Saw X cast includes Synnøve Macody Lund (Headhunters), Steven Brand (The Sandman), Michael Beach (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Renata Vaca (Dale Gas), Paulette Hernandez (Crown of Tears), Joshua Okamoto (The Club), Octavio Hinojosa (How to Survive Being Single), with Shawnee Smith expected to reprise the role of Amanda Young.
Saw X Brings the Franchise Back to Its Roots Following Spiral: From the Book of Saw
The first Saw, which landed in theaters way back in 2004, was met with mixed reviews upon release, but is still considered to be by far the best installment in what has sadly become a mixed bag of a franchise. Still, the Saw saga plows on, with Saw X all set to bring back Tobin Bell as John Kramer aka Jigsaw. “What a thrill to be reuniting with Tobin,” Saw X producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules previously said in a statement regarding the return of Tobin Bell. “His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that made this franchise a phenomenon and his character is an active part of this film.”
The last audiences saw of Saw was 2021’s Spiral: From the Book of Saw, which finds director Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV) kinda, sorta semi-rebooting the franchise alongside star Chris Rock. Spiral: From the Book of Saw follows Rock starring as brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks, who, while working in the shadow of his esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson) father, must take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw divided critics and audiences upon release, with the former calling it shallow while the latter found it more than satisfying for fans of the gory franchise. While the placement of Spiral: From the Book of Saw in the series has been a confusing one, Saw X will seemingly ignore it in favor of a sequel/prequel setting.
