And here’s the official synopsis, which offers more details about The Cello and the horrors that await…

“Like many musicians, accomplished Saudi cellist Nasser has aspirations for greatness, though he feels like he’s held back by the old, dilapidated instrument he’s forced to play. When Nasser is offered the chance to take possession of a gorgeous red cello by a mysterious shop owner, he finds new inspiration both for his playing and for his composing. What Nasser doesn’t realize is that this cello has a nefarious past. As he prepares for an important audition with a prominent philharmonic, that past shows itself in the form of an ancient conductor and the suffering and death of those close to him. Nasser must now decide if achieving his dreams is worth the horror that comes with playing such a perfect instrument.”

Who Stars in The Cello?

Nassar is played by Syrian actor Samer Ismail, who will be accompanied by two great Hollywood legends. The Cello sees director Darren Lynn Bousman reunite with horror icon and long-time collaborator, Tobin Bell, with the film also set to star Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons. The cast of The Cello is completed by Muhanad Al Hamdi, Elham Ali, Souad Abdullah, Mila Al Zahrani, Baraa Alem, Ghassan Massoud, Basheer Al Ghonam, and Mohammed Altoyan.

Bell returned to the Saw franchise this year in the tenth installment, which takes place between the events of the first and second films. The plot centers on a sick John Cramer who travels to Mexico hoping for treatment that could cure him, only to discover that it is nothing more than a scam, which will lead him to take revenge on those who scammed him and many other people, in a very sadistic and cruel way, as he only knows how to do it.

Irons, for his part, had a slightly quieter year, as he had only two small roles besides starring in The Cello. The acclaimed actor returned as Alfred Pennyworth in The Flash, and reprised the role of Scar in the short film Once Upon a Studio, which was released to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary.

The Cello is Darren Lynn Bousman’s 15th feature film as a director. The filmmaker was an important part of the Saw franchise just like Bell, directing Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV and Spiral: From the Book of Saw, so he is very much an expert in the genre.
