Samsung is offering a sweet deal on its 990 Pro SSD that will save you a little money and get you more storage for games. The best part is that it’s PS5-compatible. If you don’t already have expanded storage in your PS5, you should. And now is a great time to pick up the drive without paying full retail price. Normally the 990 Pro SSD would cost $265, but Samsung is shaving $65 off so you only end up spending $200. Worth noting is that this is the 990 Pro with a heatsink on it already. So it’s good to go for the PS5 right out of the box.

On top of that, this is the 2TB model that you’re looking at for the $200 price. This is more than enough space for a lot of extra games beyond the PS5’s already available internal storage. If you feel like you might need more, well you’re in luck. Because Samsung is discounting the 4TB model of the 990 Pro as well. The 4TB model is normally $480, but it’s been discounted down to $340, saving you $140 altogether. And if you need less space, then there’s the 1TB mode on sale now for $140 instead of $175. So you certainly have options.

In terms of specs, the sequential read and write speeds for the 990 Pro are incredibly fast. Boasting a sequential read speed of 7,450 MB/s, and a sequential write speed of 6,900 MB/s. This is 40% – 50% faster than Samsung’s 980 Pro, which is also PS5-compatible. I’ve used both SSDs in my PS5 and there is a noticeable difference in load times and download/installation times between the two.

And if you’re using this with a PC, you’ll be able to appreciate the RGB lighting on the heatsink. In addition to being able to monitor and manage the SSD using Samsung’s Magician software.
