Samsung has made a considerable change to RAM Plus with One UI 4.1. As most of you know, One UI 4.1 is the latest version of Samsung’s Android software, and it comes pre-installed on the Galaxy S22 series.
Before we get started, it’s worth noting that the Galaxy S22 series of smartphones launched yesterday. Samsung also announced three Galaxy Tab S8 series flagship tablets, alongside its flagship smartphones.
RAM Plus feature gets a considerable upgrade in One UI 4.1
That being said, RAM Plus is a feature that lets you increase the amount of RAM (Random Access Memory) on your Galaxy device. It is Samsung’s name for virtual memory, basically. Up until now, RAM Plus used 4GB of internal storage as virtual memory, that’s how it was tweaked.
Well, with One UI 4.1, things are a bit different. You can now extend the RAM Plus limit on the Galaxy S22. You can use 2GB, 4GB, 6GB, and even 8GB of internal storage, if you want. That is the utility we’ve been wanting, and Samsung delivered.
Now, considering this is a One UI 4.1 feature, and not a Galaxy S22-specific feature, many other devices will get it, as they did RAM Plus feature in general. That feature spread like wildfire across Samsung phones.
Virtual RAM is not exactly a new concept, it has been in use for quite some time now
How exactly does RAM Plus work? Well, it is using a part of your internal storage to extend the amount of RAM, similarly to how Windows allocates a portion of disk storage to use as virtual RAM.
This change flew under the radar at first, but it’s right there, in the settings. You can check out the image provided below in order to see for yourself.
