Samsung has announced that it’s bringing its mobile cloud gaming platform out of beta, extending the reach of game publishers and their games to more users and more devices. Samsung says this platform has been in beta since 2023 and it’s a means for publishers to distribute games in a way that doesn’t require players to download anything.

“Samsung’s mobile cloud gaming platform enables game publishers to direct users instantly into their mobile games, bypassing the app store install process,” Samsung says about the platform on its landing page. Cloud gaming is not a new concept and has been around for, honestly several years beyond what most people probably remember. There are of course more recent services like Xbox Game Pass, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Utomik, Boosteroid, and a few others. Most of these are also available on newer Samsung TVs and monitors.

But do you remember OnLive? It was launched all the way back in 2010, well before any of these other services had even taken shape. The point is, cloud gaming has been around for a while. The thing to remember is that all of these options are focused on PC and console games. Samsung’s platform is focused on mobile. And it makes sense given how popular the mobile landscape is for gaming. There are over 2 billion users globally, and yet there really aren’t many options for cloud gaming on mobile with mobile games. Samsung is changing that.

The Samsung mobile cloud gaming platform has improved user acquisition performance

Samsung may have placed a big bet with this platform but even if it did, that bet seems to have paid off. Since the launch of the platform’s beta last year, Samsung says it has seen a dramatic increase in user acquisition performance “with a 50% conversion from initial click to game start.” All because games were instantly accessible through the cloud, no download required. What does that mean exactly? It basically means that there were more players coming into games and spending money than before.

Samsung says this helped publishers gain a significant return on their advertising investment. What’s more, the 50% increase is more than the industry average. And to top it all off monthly active users in the US and Canada increased by 149% year-over-year. Again, all because of this cloud gaming platform for mobile games.

Download-free reduced latency mobile gaming on Galaxy devices

While this isn’t a platform that’s directly user-facing, it’s still going to benefit users. Publishers that choose to give Samsung’s platform a shot will be able to get players straight into their games from an ad. From a user standpoint, this means getting into the game faster. And there’s something about instant access to gaming that just seems appealing. No waiting for an install and little enough latency that you barely perceive it. It’s an exciting prospect.

This appears to be limited to Galaxy devices. So if instant access to mobile games with no downloads sounds appealing to you, you might want to make your next smartphone one that comes from Samsung. Publishers and developers who want to check out more information on the platform can check out the main webpage.
