Samsung‘s Good Lock customization suite for Galaxy devices is now available to download from the Google Play Store. The app was previously only available on the Galaxy Store. This expansion might open up doors for its rollout in more markets, though the company has yet to confirm anything officially.
Samsung brings its Good Lock customization suite to the Play Store
Google Lock is a suite of customization tools for Galaxy devices. These tools let you customize various UI elements, including the navigation bar, status bar, quick settings panel, notification shade, multi-windows experience, lock screen, themes, and more. They kind of enable you to redesign your Galaxy experience and help you get more out of your device.
First released in South Korea in 2016, Samsung has gradually expanded Good Lock to more countries. It is currently available in over 40 countries. Considering the Korean firm’s global presence, that is still a limited availability of such a powerful tool. Unsurprisingly, the company had to face a lot of flak from the public for keeping Good Lock limited to select markets. It appears Samsung plans to bring the app to even more markets through the Play Store.
X user @Litto31102469 recently spotted Good Lock on the Play Store. SamMobile subsequently found the app’s One Hand Operation+ module on the store. Samsung may eventually bring all modules to the Play Store, giving Galaxy users more choices when downloading them. The company appears to be testing a few things and has appended “Early Access” at the end of the app’s name. It might remove the tag once the test is completed.
The app might soon roll out in more markets
Good Lock’s availability on the Play Store doesn’t mean it will work on Android phones from other brands. The app is still limited to high-end Galaxy devices, including some mid-rangers (budget phones aren’t powerful enough to handle its UI customizations). Just that users are no longer forced to download it from the Galaxy Store. They can download it from the Play Store.
We hope Samsung will also work on releasing the app in more markets. The company has been slow in expanding Good Lock globally. An X user, who appears to be from Nigeria, says the app isn’t available for them on the Play Store or Galaxy Store. It remains to be seen if that changes in the coming months. We will let you know when we have more information.
