Samsung‘s upcoming clamshell foldable Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature an unusual folder-shaped cover display. Leaked CAD renders recently visualized this design, which has since been backed by a leaked real-life photo of a transparent protective case. Someone has now made case renders for the phone in a wide range of solid colors, letting us see what the new foldable and its unique cover display would look like in colorful cases.
The leaked photo of the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s transparent case confirmed a few rumors last week. The biggest of them all was the folder-like design of the cover display. Additionally, it revealed the size of the camera housing and the LED flash. It also confirmed that the new Samsung foldable will feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Noted tipster Ice Universe shared the photo. They later posted a couple more photos of the same transparent case on Twitter.
But, they didn’t stop there. Over the weekend, the source shared renders of a Galaxy Z Flip 5 protective case in various colors. The case is shown in green, blue, black, beige, and many other shades. We have a total of ten colors to look at. The renders don’t reveal anything that we don’t already know about the device. But they give us a fresh look at the redesigned foldable, a design that hasn’t received as much love from Samsung fans in every corner of the world.
This Galaxy Z Flip 5 redesign brings a massive functional upgrade
The Galaxy Z Flip 5’s folder-shaped cover display may look a bit odd at first, at least for some people, but it brings a massive functional upgrade to Samsung’s clamshell foldables. The display, which is almost a square bar for that unusual notch, reportedly measures 3.4 inches diagonally.
That’s a big enough screen for quickly checking out messages and notifications, and even using some apps without unfolding the device. The 1.9-inch rectangular panel on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Flip 3 was too small for most use cases.
The cover display has been one of the biggest issues on Samsung’s Flip series foldables, with thickness and the display crease being others. The company is addressing all three of these issues this year.
It has developed a new type of hinge that allows the Galaxy Z Flip 5 to fold shut, reducing its thickness. The new hinge also reduces the display crease. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will also get this hinge, bringing the same improvements. Samsung is rumored to debut both foldables at the end of July.
