Samsung‘s next Fan Edition (FE) smartphone finally has an official launch date. The company has confirmed that the Galaxy S23 FE will debut this Wednesday, October 4. The confirmation comes through Samsung India’s X/Twitter page. It’s unclear if the device will launch globally on the same day or if the Korean firm will separately announce its release in other markets.

Samsung revealed the Galaxy S23 FE lunch date

It’s been almost two years since Samsung launched an FE phone. The Galaxy S21 FE, which arrived in January 2022, is the last model in the lineup. The company didn’t follow up with a Galaxy S22 FE. While we didn’t get an official explanation from the Korean firm, rumors suggest the belated launch of the previous model led to its cancellation. A global semiconductor shortage in 2021 pushed back the Galaxy S21 FE’s release by a few months.

There have been rumors about Samsung entirely shelving the FE series but, instead, it ended up discontinuing the Galaxy A7x series. We didn’t get a Galaxy A74 this year, while the Galaxy S23 FE is now all set to debut a couple of days later. The header image for Samsung India’s X page confirms that “The New Epic” is launching on October 4. If you recall, this is the tagline the Korean behemoth has been using in teasers for the new FE phone.

Interestingly, only Samsung India is currently teasing the Galaxy S23 FE. The company is also teasing new FE tablets and earbuds, all of which are expected to go official later this week. These launches come just in time for the festive shopping season and sales events in the country. Amazon and Flipkart, the two biggest e-commerce platforms, have both announced their respective sales events from Sunday, October 8.

This makes us wonder whether the Galaxy S23 FE will have an India-exclusive launch this week, with other markets to follow later. There have been rumors about a staggered release of the phone spanning till early 2024. We hope that isn’t true. The device is shaping up to be a decent premium mid-range offering, particularly with the rumored $100 price cut. Samsung might benefit from its global release within a week or two if not on the same day.

The device will ship with two different chipsets

The Indian version of the Galaxy S23 FE won’t feature the same chipset as the US version. The former market, along with Europe, Africa, and others, will get Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2200 SoC. Buyers in the US, Canada, and China, on the other hand, will get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The rest of the specs will remain unchanged. Stay tuned for the new FE phone’s official launch in a couple of days.
