Samsung may begin the beta testing of its One UI 5.0 custom software based on Android 13 soon. According to SamMobile, the first public beta build may release in the third week of July. The publication had previously suggested a similar timeline. The latest report pretty much confirms that.
As expected, the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 beta program will first open for the Galaxy S22 series. But Samsung will eventually cover more flagship models, including the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. As usual, the company will release multiple beta builds for the devices before the stable rollout. The latter may begin in October, the new report adds. Of course, the party will begin with the Galaxy S22 series, with flagship models getting the priority.
If these reported timelines are true, Samsung should start registrations for the beta program in the coming days. Moreover, the company will also have released the stable Android 13 update a month earlier than the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 first hit the stable channel last year. The vast majority of eligible Galaxy flagships had received the big Android update before the end of 2021. It could come even earlier this time.
By the end of 2022, Samsung may seed One UI 5.0 to a bunch of mid-rangers and budget smartphones too. What a turnaround this has been in a couple of years. It wasn’t too long ago when the Korean behemoth was criticized for slow software updates. But it’s arguably the best Android vendor today in that respect, with only Google near or on par with it. There’s no competitor to Samsung when it comes to monthly security updates.
One UI 5.0 rumored features
One UI 5.0 is Samsung’s Android 13 flavor and will include most of the goodies that are part and parcel of the Google-made software. But the Korean behemoth usually makes heavy customization on top of Google’s version of Android and this year should be no different. Unfortunately, not much is known about the new features Samsung will bake into its custom software.
We are hearing that One UI 5.0 will significantly improve UI animations. Moving from one system page to the other should feel smoother and make for a faster navigating experience. There may be subtle UI redesigns as well. With just about three weeks to go for the reported opening of the One UI 5.0 beta program for the Galaxy S22 series, it isn’t a too long wait now before we get to taste the latest iteration of Samsung’s custom Android software.
