Three years after the launch of the Galaxy Fit 2, Samsung seems to be finally readying its successor. The FCC has just certified what appears to be a new fitness band from the Korean behemoth. It could arrive as the Galaxy Fit 3 in the coming months.

The FCC has certified a new wearable device from Samsung

The fitness band market has died down in recent years with the smartwatch form factor taking precedence. The arrival of low-cost smartwatches has effectively killed fitness bands that offer fewer features and a smaller screen. Samsung hasn’t launched such basic health trackers in three years. Several other companies have also exited the market. Xiaomi has been the only one regularly launching new fitness bands over the past few years.

It appears Samsung is gearing up to make a return later this year or in early 2024. The FCC has certified a new “wearable device” from the Korean firm with the model number SM-R390, which doesn’t align with its current smartwatch lineup. It features Bluetooth connectivity and a built-in battery. While the FCC documents don’t reveal anything else, schematics of the device confirm that it isn’t a Galaxy Watch.

The device in question has a rectangular shape and it seemingly features two pogo pins at the back, likely for charging purposes. The schematics also show a heart rate sensor and other sensors at the back. There appear to be a couple of holes or buttons on either end of it, likely to attach the wristband. A physical button sits on the right side of the device (when looked at it with the screen facing up).

Samsung alleged Galaxy Fit 3 FCC

We should be looking at the Samsung Galaxy Fit 3 here

Based on the available information, the new Samsung wearable appears to be a fitness band. The company might launch it as the Galaxy Fit 3. It’s slightly wider than the Galaxy Fit 2, so we may get a bigger display. The previous model featured a 1.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen. The upcoming model can also be upgraded in several other areas. GPS support and internal storage are something that a fitness band would greatly benefit from.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any other details about the unannounced Samsung product that just popped up on the FCC database. The Galaxy Fit 2 offered a range of health trackers, including a heart rate sensor, workout detection, and sleep tracking. It came with 5ATM water resistance and could mirror notifications, calls, and media playback from a connected smartphone. Time will tell what improvements and upgrades the Galaxy Fit 3 brings.
