Samsung has finally revealed the launch date for its next-gen flagship SoC, the Exynos 2200. The company published a video teaser via its social media channels, confirming that the SoC is coming on January 11.
This will be the first chip that comes out as a collaboration between Samsung and AMD. In other words, it will include an AMD GPU, something that Samsung confirmed quite some time ago.
The Exynos 2200 launch date is set for mid-January
Some people were expecting this chip to drop in December, but Samsung decided to schedule its launch date in mid-January. In its social media post, Samsung said that its RDNA 2-powered chip is coming on the said date.
Interestingly enough, the Galaxy S21 FE is rumored to go on sale on that date. In any case, this chip is tipped to offer 20-percent better CPU capabilities, and 30-percent better graphics compared to the Snapdragon 888.
A recent leak tipped a 5-percent better CPU performance than the Exynos 2100, and a 17-percent better GPU performance. That very same leak also tipped AI performance improvement of 117-percent.
These are not confirmed numbers, of course, so we’ll have to wait and see. This does not look impressive on paper, at least when it comes to CPU and GPU performance, but we’ll see.
Flagship Exynos chips don’t have the best reputation, but the Exynos 2200 could change that
Flagship Exynos chips don’t exactly have the best reputation. They’re known for throttling, and even though they’re quite powerful and offer really good performance, their Snapdragon counterparts are generally held in higher regard.
Will the Exynos 2200 change that? Well, Samsung certainly hopes so. This AMD partnership is expected to boost the quality of its chips, and let’s hope Samsung solved all performance-related issues.
The Galaxy S22 series is expected to become the first smartphone lineup to feature the Exynos 2200. It will include this chip only in some regions, as Samsung allegedly plains to use both Snapdragon and Exynos flagship SoCs once again.
