Samsung One UI 6.1.1 update has a nifty little feature that makes copying files easier and quicker. The new feature is in the My Files app and appears only when copying or moving files from one location to another.
A new pop-up window in One UI 6.1.1 makes copying files easier
The Android OS ecosystem is optimized for apps and media consumption. However, the default file manager isn’t as feature-reach as the one in Linux or Windows. However, Android devices have been doing the heavy lifting in many cases involving web services and online platforms.
Realizing the copy-paste feature is still rather rudimentary, Samsung has added a new feature in the “My Files” app. The default file manager on Samsung’s One UI platform now makes it easy to quickly copy or move files on a Samsung smartphone.
A short video shows the updated My Files app in action. When users select a file and copy and paste it or move it to another location on the phone’s internal or external storage, a pop-up window hovers at the bottom of the screen. It displays folders available on the internal and cloud storage locations.
The hovering pop-up is an integral feature of My Files. It has segregated tabs at the top allowing users to paste or move files. Needless to say, Samsung has included internal, expandable, and cloud storage locations. For example, the file copying/moving pop-up window displays Google Drive, Internal Storage, and OneDrive locations.
Interestingly, the new pop-up does not disappear after the file copying or pasting process is over. It continues to stay on the screen after the file transfer operation is completed. It now allows users to quickly jump to the folder where they copied or moved the file.
Will all Samsung Galaxy smartphones get the new feature in My Files?
Samsung recently released the One UI 6.1.1 feature update. However, the company has currently sent out the update to the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

As these are the only devices running One UI 6.1.1, they have the updated My Files app. However, Samsung has updated the app. In other words, Samsung could release the updated My Files app to other Galaxy smartphones. Moreover, the One UI 6.1.1 is reportedly being developed for several Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Hence, this feature should make its way to most Samsung devices eventually.
