Samsung is preparing to launch a new mid-range Android tablet. The Global Certification Forum (GCF) recently certified an unannounced Galaxy tablet with the model number SM-P625. It appears to be the rumored Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024), also known as the Galaxy Tab S9 Lite. The device is allegedly a second refresh of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Originally launched in April 2020, Samsung introduced the first refresh in May 2022.

Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) or Galaxy Tab S9 Lite nears its launch

Rumors about Samsung’s new mid-range tablet started circulating earlier this month. A couple of tipsters hinted at its existence. While both suggested it would be the successor to the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, they differed in terms of the device’s name. One Said Samsung will launch it as the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024), while the owner called it the Galaxy Tab S9 Lite. While we are still awaiting confirmation on its name, the device is seemingly inching closer to its launch.

Based on Samsung’s current model number system, the device certified by the GCF (SM-P625) should be the 4G variant of the tablet. Its Wi-Fi-only variant previously surfaced on the benchmark platform Geekbench with the model number SM-P620. The 5G variant should be identified by SM-P627. All three models are powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1280 chipset with at least 4GB of RAM. The tablet runs Android 14 out of the box.

The original Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (SM-P610/SM-P615) shipped with the Exynos 9611 processor and Android 10. The 2022 version (SM-P613/SM-P619) swapped the chipset for the Snapdragon 732G/Snapdragon 720G and arrived with Android 12. Everything else remained unchanged. If the upcoming device is another refresh of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, the company may do the same again—upgrade the chip and Android version—regardless of what it is called.

We would love Samsung to upgrade the device in a few other areas, including the camera and charging speed. The 8MP rear camera and 5MP selfie camera are outdated now, and so is the 15W charging speed. We should get to learn more about the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024)/Galaxy Tab S9 Lite in the coming weeks as Samsung prepares for its launch. The Korean tech behemoth has yet to announce a launch date for the device.

An affordable Galaxy Watch may also be in the pipeline

Alongside a mid-range tablet, Samsung is rumored to be readying a refreshed Galaxy Watch 4, aka Galaxy Watch FE. Details are scarce but the company may be planning to re-launch its 2021 smartwatch with the latest version of Wear OS and One UI Watch at an affordable price. The Galaxy Watch 4 is already selling for less than one-third of its original price. Both of these devices may go official around the same time.
