The Samsung Galaxy S22+ is coming along with its siblings, and it’s the phone we’ll preview in this article. Along with this handset, Samsung will announce the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra. The Galaxy S22+ will be the middle model, as per usual, and it will resemble the Galaxy S22 more than the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Samsung is doing things a bit differently this time around, as the ‘Ultra’ model will essentially be a successor to the Galaxy Note lineup.
A lot of information surfaced on all three of these phones thus far. Rumors and leaks started quite early, and over the last couple of months, we’ve seen a lot of info out there. We’ve hand-picked the most important pieces in order to form this article. Read on if you’d like to see what to expect out of the Galaxy S22+. We’ll cover the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra previews separately, by the way.
This article will be regularly updated with new information on the Galaxy S22+ (this is a preview article) — both official teasers and credible leaks, rumors, and insider claims — as it becomes available in the run-up to the release of the upcoming Android smartphone. The last update was made on December 29.
The Galaxy S22+ will resemble its predecessor
The Samsung Galaxy S22+ will be made out of metal and glass, it seems. It will resemble the Galaxy S22 far more than the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but it will include a glass backplate, instead of a plastic one on the Galaxy S22. Its front and back sides will be completely flat, allegedly. Therefore, the device will feature a flat display, and you’ll be able to find a display camera hole there as well. It will be centered at the top of the display. That will be the case for all three models, actually. Samsung opted against using an under-display camera here.
The bezels on the Galaxy S22+ will be quite thin. In fact, this handset will have a thinner bottom bezel than the Galaxy S22 Ultra. That is, at least what is being reported. Its power / lock and volume rocker buttons will sit on the right-hand side, as we’re used to seeing from Samsung. A Type-C USB port will be located at the bottom, right next to the phone’s main speaker. The secondary speaker will sit above the display. Three vertically aligned cameras will sit on the back, with a similar design the Galaxy S21 series offered. So, it will extend from the phone’s frame, and protrude a bit.
Expect an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner to be included under the display
Samsung is expected to utilize an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner here, and the phone will be IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. The phone did surface in CAD-based renders, which should give you a great idea as to what to expect. The gallery is available down below, and these images basically show what we talked about here. These images are quite probably very accurate.
The Galaxy S22+ is said to measure 157.4 x 75.8 x 7.6mm and weigh 195 grams. The device is tipped to arrive in four color variants, at the very least. The Galaxy S22+ in Black, Green, Pink Gold, and White will launch.

The device will come in two SoC variants, as did its predecessors
The Samsung Galaxy S22+ will come in two different variants, just like its siblings. It will ship in Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 options, depending on your region. Other than that, the rest of the specs should be the same. The Galaxy S22+ is tipped to include a 6.55-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) LTPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The device is tipped to offer record breaking 1,750 nits of max brightness. The LTPO panel will be reserved for the “Ultra” model in the series. The Galaxy S22+’s display will be flat, by the way, with a centered hole punch.
When it comes to the battery, the Galaxy S22+ will likely include a 4,500mAh unit. So, its battery will be smaller than the one in its predecessor, the Galaxy S21+. That handset included a 4,800mAh unit. In regards to charging, we’ve heard conflicting reports. The Galaxy S22+ may offer the same 45W fast wired charging as the “Ultra” model, while the regular unit will be stuck with 25W charging. There is a slight chance that the S22+ will be limited to 25W charging as well, we’ll see. One thing is for sure, all of them will ship without a charging brick. Wireless charging will also be supported, and we’re likely looking at 15W wireless charging. Samsung will enable reverse wireless charging too, but it will be quite slow, as per usual.
Samsung will include at least 8GB of RAM
We’re still not sure what RAM and storage options will be available, but Samsung will include at least 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of storage inside this phone. 12GB RAM model may be available as well with 256GB or 512GB of storage. It remains to be seen how will Samsung mix and match between these options. Do note that you won’t be able to expand storage in either model, as microSD card support won’t be on offer.
The phone will offer IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. It will also offer stereo speakers, but not a 3.5mm headphone jack. Bluetooth 5.2 is expected, and the phone will support 5G connectivity, of course. The device will measure 157.4 x 75.8 x 7.6mm and weigh 195 grams.
A new 50-megapixel camera will be included, four cameras overall
Samsung is planning to improve not only camera software on the Galaxy S22+, but the hardware as well. The device will include a new 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.55-inch sensor). This will likely be the ISOCELL GN5 sensor, by the way. That sensor users Dual Pixel Pro autofocus tech, and 2×2 pixel binning to provide 12.5-megapixel photos. It also has Samsung’s proprietary Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) technology that helps with low light performance.
Its selfie camera will remain unchanged
The device will have two additional sensors on the back. You can expect a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera (1.4um pixel size, f/2.2 aperture), and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera (3x optical zoom, 1.22um pixel size, f/2.2 aperture) to be included. Now, when it comes to the selfie camera, that is where we won’t see any hardware improvements. Samsung will once again use a 10-megapixel camera, and it seems like it will be the same from the last couple of generations of Galaxy S phones. These are, of course, only rumors at this point, it remains to be seen what will happen.
This is the same setup that the Galaxy S22 will use. The two phones will use the exact same cameras. The Galaxy S22 Ultra will stand apart, though, with a 108-megapixel main camera, a telephoto camera, and more. We’ll talk about that in a separate article. It’s worth noting that neither Galaxy S22 phone will carry Olympus branding. There were some rumors that Samsung plans to partner up with Olympus, but those turned out to be fake.
The Galaxy S22+ will launch in early February along with its siblings
The Samsung Galaxy S22 series was first rumored to arrive in January, a year after the Galaxy S21 series. Well, it seems like that won’t happen. All three Galaxy S22 series phones will likely drop in February, as the Galaxy S21 FE is coming in January. Based on the most recent information, from a reliable source, the Galaxy S22 series will become official on February 8. All three devices are said to go on pre-order on that very same day, and go on sale on February 18.
Pricing is still a mystery
Prices are still unknown, and that goes for all three Galaxy S22 series handsets. The Galaxy S22+ will, of course, be somewhere between the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra in terms of the price. Price tags should be somewhat similar to the Galaxy S21 prices at launch, and if a recent report is to be believed, the Galaxy S22+ will be around $50 more expensive than its predecessor. That means its base model, with 256GB of storage, not 128GB, may end up costing $1,049. If a separate report is to be believed, however, the prices will remain unchanged in comparison to the Galaxy S21+. What we do know is that the Galaxy S22+ will arrive in quite a few color variants. The device is tipped to launch in white, black, green, rose gold, blue, gray, and beige color options.
