Samsung Foundry has entered into a partnership with the South Korean firm DeepX. As part of the collaboration, Samsung Foundry will manufacture 5nm AI chips for DeepX. Notably, Samsung Foundry is the world’s second-largest contract semiconductor chip maker after TSMC. The company will now mass produce DeepX’s first-gen AI semiconductor chip called the DX-M1.

By utilizing Samsung’s advanced 5nm AI chip-making technology, DeepX is positioning itself as a key player in the AI semiconductor market.

Samsung Foundry will mass produce the DeepX DX-M1 AI semiconductor chip

DeepX has announced that it is beginning the mass production of the DX-M1 semiconductor chip in collaboration with Samsung Foundry. The South Korean tech firm’s first-gen AI chip will leverage Samsung Foundry’s 5nm fabrication process. With this tech, the DX-M1 chip aims to provide high performance and lower power consumption. The brand says that the chip is “designed to meet the growing demand for AI solutions across various industries”.

The AI chip firm DeepX has also signed a deal with Goanchips. The latter is a design solution partner of Samsung Foundry. The Korean chip design house optimizes the design for mass production for the clients of Samsung Electronics as well.

As per the reports, DeepX received the first samples of the DX-M1 chip from Samsung Foundry in June 2024. Now, after conducting a series of tests to validate its performance, DeepX all set to begin mass production. Notably, DeepX developed multiple prototypes of the DX-M1 chip using Goanchips’ and Samsung Foundry’s 5nm, 14nm, and 28nm fabrication processes.

A DeepX official said, “DX-M1 will be an important opportunity for DeepX to enter the global AI semiconductor market. We will lead the AI semiconductor market in North America, Greater China, and Europe by providing the best AI solutions that meet the diverse needs of our customers.”

10 global corporate firms will use the DeepX DX-M1 chip this year

If the production goes as planned, the DeepX DX-M1 chip will be utilized by 10 major global corporate firms this year. Furthermore, the company has revealed that up to 20 firms will use the same by the first half of 2025. The company already claims to have provided AI chips and software development tools to over 120 companies across the US, China, Europe, and Japan.

DeepX introduced the DX-M1 AI semiconductor chip at this year’s CES in January. The new piece of tech made waves in the AI realm by promising top-notch performance while keeping energy use to a minimum. The chip flaunts real-time on-device AI processing and is compatible with a wide range of AI models.
