Action movie superstar and Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone becomes a superhero in the first trailer for Samaritan. Released courtesy of the official Prime Video YouTube channel, the footage introduces Stallone as an aged, thought-dead superhero of old, who is tracked down by a young boy left wondering why the hero known as Samaritan walked away from his great power and his great responsibility. You can check out the first trailer for Samaritan below.
Directed by Overlord’s Julius Avery and produced by Sylvester Stallone and Braden Aftergood from a screenplay by Bragi F. Schut, Samaritan follows Javon Walton as Sam Cleary, a young boy who goes in search of a mythic superhero who was thought to have died following an epic battle with his archenemy years ago. Discovering that the hero has been living under the radar as a garbage man named Joe Smith, Sam attempts to persuade him to return to the fray and save the world. All the while, a notorious gang has Joe in their sights…
The first footage from Samaritan is a delight for fans of Stallone, with the still-burly 76-year-old action star making the perfect aged superhero. Stallone runs through walls, plows through bad guys, all the while just wanting to live a quiet, humble life. While not shown fully in this family-friendly trailer, there are undoubtable hints of brutal violence peppered throughout the footage. Make no mistake, Spider-Man Samaritan ain’t.
Written by Bragi F. Schut, Samaritan has been described as a dark, new take on superhero movies and stars Sylvester Stallone as Joe Smith AKA Samaritan alongside Euphoria and The Umbrella Academy star Javon Walton as Sam Cleary. The supporting cast includes the likes of Martin Starr (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Moisés Arias (The King of Staten Island), Dascha Polanco (In the Heights), Natacha Karam (The Old Guard), as well as Jared Odrick, Michael Aaron Milligan, Deacon Randle, and Game of Thrones actor Pilou Asbæk as gang leader, Cyrus.
